Director Vlad Yudin On The Underdog Podcast: Upcoming Kai Greene Film Was Most Challenging To Make Yet

Director Vlad Yudin On The Underdog Podcast: Upcoming Kai Greene Film Was Most Challenging To Make Yet

Vlad Yudin went in depth about the upcoming documentary on the life and legacy of Kai Greene.
The next film documentary by The Vladar Company is set to be released later this year. This film, entitled Kai, will chronicle the life and career of Kai Greene. Director Vlad Yudin recently sat down with Underdog Talk podcast to discuss the upcoming film and what is next for the company.
Kai Greene was featured in the original Generation Iron documentary in 2013. The sit-down began with a discussion on the original film, which ended up having more films come from it.
“When we were making the first Generation Iron, all of the focus was going into the film. I was not thinking about what was coming after or what was before. I had no idea what it was going to become. It emerged into a lot of different things afterwards.”
“I wasn’t focused on what was going to happen after. I was in the moment.”

After appearing in Generation Iron, Kai Greene will now have his own documentary made about his life and legacy. The Kai Greene documentary will tell the full life story of Greene, ranging from his troubled childhood through his bodybuilding career and into his post-retirement lifestyle.
Vlad Yudin continued to discuss how this film has taken some time to make over the years and navigating through the pandemic.
“This film has been in the making for the last few years actually. We started making it pre-pandemic. We’ve been shooting it throughout 2020, 2021. It’s a complex film because Kai, his story is pretty complex. There’s a lot of levels of it. From his childhood, growing up, and all the trauma he went through. Of course, the bodybuilding stories and what transpired after that.”
Kai Greene grew up in a troubled home in Brooklyn, only to eventually become a ward of the state and an orphan. Struggling to survive, he eventually became incarcerated during his youth. Upon being released from prison, Greene discovered bodybuilding, became a male exotic dancer, and eventually earned his way up into the IFBB pro league.
Greene is a three-time champion at the Arnold Classic and appeared on the Olympia stage  six times. From 2012-2014, Greene finished as the runner-up to Phil Heath on the biggest stage. This is when the rivalry began between the two elite athletes. Heath will appear in the documentary discussing Greene.
Vlad Yudin was born in Russia and moved to New York to pursue his dream and passion of film making. The interview ends with Yudin calling for others to work toward their goals and not give up when it gets difficult.
“Whatever your end goal is, whatever your vision is going to be, you have to figure out smaller goals to get there…You’ll get there if you’re consistent.”
“You gotta love the process. If you don’t love it then why even do it? You gotta love the small things and of course, if you quit then it wasn’t for you in the first place. It’s important to know that.”
Kai is set to be released later in the year and is currently in post production. For more news and updates, follow Generation Iron on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

2022 INBA PNBA World Championships: Preview

2022 INBA PNBA World Championships: Preview

The 2022 INBA PNBA World Championships show takes place this weekend!
The 2022 International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA)/Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association (PNBA) World Championships competition takes place this upcoming weekend, June 25, 2022, in Florence, Italy.
This competition is one of INBA PNBA’s biggest shows of the year. It’s part of the “Road to Natural Olympia” series of shows. Competitors can earn a spot at Natural Olympia, and amateurs who place well can obtain their pro card–although competitors don’t necessarily turn pro until they debut.
Natural Olympia is the largest natural bodybuilding show in the sport. It’s equivalent to the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Pro’s Olympia. However, there’s one significant difference. Natural Olympia competitors are thoroughly drug tested and abide by the strictest drug testing standards–World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Denny Kakos, INBA PNBA’s founder, has high hopes for natural bodybuilding. Bringing bodybuilding to the Olympics is his ultimate goal. The Olympics also abides by WADA regulations and prohibit drugs.
The INBA PNBA World Championships is one of the most diverse international shows. Athletes worldwide come to this event to represent their country and put their nation on the map.
Athletes Attending 2022 World Championships
Generation Iron (GI) interviewed a few key contenders participating in the weekend show. Below are the competitors we talked to, and they gave us some insight into what they look to achieve.
Kayla Rowling
3x Bikini Divas Natural Olympia champ and multi-media athlete Kayla Rowling is one of the most prominent INBA PNBA competitors competing at the 2022 INBA PNBA World Championships. Rowling’s excited about this competition exceptionally because it will be her first international bikini competition of the year. To prepare for the show, Rowling shared her pre-contest breakfast nutrition plan. Rowling has been eating five egg whites, asparagus, and mushrooms for breakfast to prep for the event.
Veronica Malloy
2x Natural Olympia champ and Hall of Fame Inductee Veronica Malloy placed well at 2021 Natural Olympia, receiving third place in Bikini Angels and a top-five placement in the Figure class. GI recently spoke with Malloy about strategies to find WADA-compliant supplements. According to Malloy, WADA doesn’t have a compliant supplement list, so INBA PNBA athletes must do their due diligence to learn what supplements will pass screenings. Malloy agrees that although Florence, Italy, is beautiful, she’s there for work–she does admit to probably indulging in pizza and other Italian cuisines after the show, though.
Tommi Thompson
Tommi Thompson’s been competing with the INBA PNBA since 2017 in the Men’s Bodybuilding Open category. He’s also been serving in the military for over 20 years. Thompson gave GI a dive into his contest prep for the show in Florence, Italy, and ways Thompon’s conditioning his body to burn fat without losing muscle. Plus, he’s being trained by Natural Olympia champ Philip Ricardo Jr. Thompon’s been keeping his weights heavy during the cutting process to show up on stage in Florence at his best conditioning.
The INBA PNBA’s upcoming natural bodybuilding schedule is on Instagram below.

Generation Iron will be providing full coverage of the 2022 INBA PNBA World Championships. So follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to stay tuned!

James Maslow: Most People Don’t Know What It Feels Like To Really Be Fit | The Mike O’Hearn Show

James Maslow: Most People Don’t Know What It Feels Like To Really Be Fit | The Mike O’Hearn Show

[embedded content]

Mike O’Hearn sits down with Singer and actor James Maslow being both physically and mentally optimized in order to succeed in life.
James Maslow is a likely best known for being a singer in the boyband Big Time Rush and also starring in the Nickelodeon show of the same name. But he’s also exploding into the film industry with three new films being released in 2022. Not only that – but as he’s aged out of being a “child star” he’s put emphasis and energy in building a lean physique for leading man roles. He seems to have avoided the pitfalls of being a child star and maintained a stead and successful career into his young adult years. In our latest episode of The Mike O’Hearn Show, James Maslow talks with O’Hearn on how fitness and bodybuilding strategies helped him find success in the entertainment world. Presented by Generation Iron and Barbend.
James Maslow definitely falls into the same school of thought as Mike O’Hearn when it comes to not only fitness – but overall outlook on the world. Dedication, focus, and consistency are paramount towards leading a successful, happy, and healthy life. With Mike O’Hearn a few generations older than Maslow – he sees this kind of mindset incredibly encouraging – and rare – in today’s world.
In fact, O’Hearn finds it particularly impressive in James Maslow due to his career starting as a child star on Nickelodeon. It’s well documented that many child stars ultimately suffer many public struggles as they transition into a career as adults. Maslow, on the other hand, has transitioned with grace and avoided the pitfalls that we’ve seen in many other young stars.
James Maslow believes a big part of that has to due with his fitness regiment. Much like Mike O’Hearn, Maslow dedicated himself to fitness and bodybuilding at a very young age. He’s always considered dedicated work into health and fitness as the foundation for success and happiness in all arenas of life.

ABOVE: James Maslow showcasing his physique in the TubiTV movie – We Need To Talk.
James Maslow On The Importance Of Being Fit And Optimized
James Maslow believes that many average people in this world have never fully felt what it’s like to be truly healthy. This doesn’t mean that most of the world are unhealthy slobs. But it does mean that majority of people in this world suffer from often unseen subconscious limitations all stemming from a lack of optimized health.
“I think most people have never felt what it feels like to be optimized. Truly, people think they are healthy and a lot might be somewhat healthy and the workout… but they have burgers three or four times a week and they are like, ‘Whatever. I worked it off at the gym.’ There’s just this constant justification. They are not feeling or performing to their full potential. They’re not feeling their best.”
– James Maslow
James Maslow goes on to state that he understands this because he was once like that. For a short while, he believed he was young and invincible. That he could drink heavy and then “sweat it out in the gym” the next day. But once he started truly making fitness a priority – everything snapped into place. He realized just how far from feeling good he really was. In a way he could never fathom before he changed his lifestyle.

ABOVE: James Maslow stars in the upcoming feature film Wolf Hound.
The More Consistent Your Fitness, The Easier It Gets, The Younger You Feel
James Maslow goes on to explain that one his fitness and bodybuilding lifestyle became consistent, so much of the rest of his life became easier to bloom. His mental health improved and his focus on succeeding in other avenues outside of fitness grew.
Not only that – but he’s noticed that the older he gets the easier his training and diet regimen becomes. What feels more like a challenge and chore when you first start out for a year or two becomes second nature, more embraced, and suddenly the benefits are easier to obtain.
He looks toward the future to use a comparison. A fit person at 50 years old will feel such much more capable and younger than a person who never prioritized fitness at 50. Mike O’Hearn considers himself a testament to that fact. He was told that there was no way he can still be bodybuilding at a mass monster size over 50 years old. That the natural decay of the human body into older age won’t allow it. However, now well into his 50s, he’s still going strong and feels just as fit and capable as ever.
The myth that we cannot be functional and strong in older age is only due to a lack of focus on fitness. It’s a constant battle of the young. It’s human nature to assume you will live forever and that the things you do today will not matter because your youthful body is so resilient. But the truth is, if you can focus on fitness consistently at a young age – you will be much more capable, happy, and successful once you are over the hill.
Wrap Up
Mike O’Hearn sometimes worries that the younger generations of today don’t value the kind of hard work that he experience in his generation. While that might be simply a generational assumption – O’Hearn believes that James Maslow is a perfect example of what is possible when dedication to fitness becomes priority.
It’s not just health and longevity. It’s mental health and optimistic outlook. It’s easier to think happy when your body is running at an “optimal health setting” so to speak. While it may be impossible to prevent youth from being wasted on the young – James Maslow is a shining example of why bodybuilding and fitness matter beyond the “meathead” perception it has in the mainstream.

Chris Bumstead Hits “Brutal Leg Day” During Recent Stage Of Olympia Prep

Chris Bumstead Hits “Brutal Leg Day” During Recent Stage Of Olympia Prep

Chris Bumstead hits a quad-pumping leg workout to solidify the entire package.
Chris Bumstead has one of the best overall packages on stage in bodybuilding. His overall motivation and drive in the gym is unmatched. Recently, Bumstead shared a brutal leg workout to pump his quads as Olympia prep continues.
Bumstead is the reigning three-time Classic Physique Olympia champion. He has been at the top of a division that continues to grow and have other competitors breakout. At 27 years old, Bumstead continues to improve and is working toward his fourth consecutive victory come December.
There was a bit of a hiccup in preparation as Bumstead battled COVID-19 at the beginning of the year and was forced to take some time off. He has returned to the gym and continues to build size and strength. Bumstead is back in the gym after five days off and decided to hit a huge quad workout.

Chris Bumstead Leg Day

StairMaster – Warmup
Alternating Single-Leg Extension – 2 sets for 20 or more reps
Hip Adduction Machine – 1 set for 6 reps
Smith Machine Squat – 2 sets for 11-12 reps
Alternating Single-Leg Press machine – 2 sets for 7-10 reps
Seated Calf Raise – 5 sets for 8-10 reps

“I took five days off training or so. I don’t know why but taking time off it should usually leave you feeling rested, but it leaves me feeling tired, tighter and more broken than I was before.”
[embedded content]
Single-Leg Extension
Chris Bumstead begins the workout with a warmup on the StairMaster. This machine gets the blood flowing while activating the quads right away. Following the cardio work, Bumstead jumps right into volume completing 20 reps of single-leg extensions.
“That’s a lot of cardio. First exercise, single leg quad extension. Two sets of 20 reps or more. I hit 23 on the first set, 21 on the second, just trying to get a lot of volume.”
Hip Adduction Machine
Bumstead quickly moves onto the hip adduction machine. According to the video, he is on there for just one set. Bumstead likes to hit this machine before squatting because of the warmup it gives. Bumstead explains how this is a well-kept secret that others should try before attacking the squat rack.
Smith Machine Squats
Chris Bumstead opts for the Smith Machine squats for his next exercise. He hits two sets of 11-12 eps with a closed-stance. This is because it hits harder and gives a deeper burn in the quads.
“Anything over 10 kills me. I was trying to do a front squat closed stance. To really emphasize my quads. Second set was just high volume, closed stance, trying to burn my quads.”
Alternating Single-Leg Press Machine
Bumstead continued the trend of two sets on the leg press machine. He performed 7-10 reps per leg on this machine. Isolation avoids having one leg grow more than the other. This allows Bumstead to work both legs in the same way.
“Very simple, just a straight line movement. I’m doing one leg at a time, partly because I’m too lazy to put that many plates on.”
“I can get a little bit more range of motion to prevent one from being lopsided especially because I have a tight erector on my right side right now, which can cause me to favor my left leg.”
Seated Calf Raise
The final exercise of the workout is seated calf raises. It is important for bodybuilders to not forget about calves and Bumstead focuses on this during each leg day. During this exercise, Bumstead focuses on heavy weight.
“The first two was four plates, really heavy. My goal is to just do some heavy sets. My bro science thinking, if you walk all day on your calves, that’s high volume.”
Chris Bumstead is right on track with where he wants to be heading into July. It will be difficult for anyone to top him at the Olympia after three consecutive victories and another massive summer of prep. It will be interesting to see how he begins to finalize the product as we enter the summer and fall months.

Reigning Natural Olympia Classic Physique Champ Derek Joe Interview: Favorite Chest Exercise and Quest to 4k+ Calories

Reigning Natural Olympia Classic Physique Champ Derek Joe Interview: Favorite Chest Exercise and Quest to 4k+ Calories

Image via Instagram @djoe.hype
2021 Classic Physique Natural Olympia champion Derek Joe answers questions regarding his diet and workout plan.
Derek Joe shares his preference for leg exercises, his favorite chest exercise to sculpt a chiseled upper chest, and how he’s aiming to eat past 4k calories/day. Plus, his meal plan in a Generation Iron Interview. Derek Joe is the reigning Classic Physique Natural Olympia champ and a signed multi-media contracted athlete with Generation Iron, INBA PNBA, and Iron Man Magazine. We were able to get some insight into the champ’s favorite exercises and diet after some questions (Q) and answers (A).
Derek Joe Questions (Q) and Answers (A)
Derek Joe gave us an overlook of his training and nutrition regimen. He told us his favorite exercises and shared how a typical meal plan looks for him. Below are some questions GI asked Derek Joe and his responses.
Q: What are your favorite exercises?
A: Barbell Squat: this is the first exercise I ever learned to do in the weight room and is one of the most foundational.
Bulgarian Split Squat: I like to incorporate single-leg movements as much as possible.
Hammer Strength Incline Chest Machine done with cross-body single-arm press: I’m focusing more on my upper chest this season, so I started doing these. They hit that area well and let me concentrate on contracting/isolating the muscle where I need it.
Q: How do your nutrition look in-season and off-season?
A: I’m a little more flexible and intuitive during the off-season while keeping the same framework as being in prep. I eat more fruit, vary my carb and protein choices, and have periodic cheat/refeed meals as I feed.
Things tighten up big time when I start in-season prep and even more so as I get closer to a show. My coach and I keep everything simple, eating the same daily foods. I’m communicating with my coach more frequently, so if my body feels like it needs something, we discuss it together before making any changes.
Q: What meals and nutrition targets do you have?
A: Right now, my coach has me at and will be pushing me past 4,000 calories daily, eating 210g protein, 530g carbs, and 95g fat.
Meal 1

1 Scoop protein shake (Plant-Based)
2 tablespoons of Chia Seeds
CARBS OF CHOICE TO FIT MACRO (e.g., 2 cups of oatmeal)

Meal 2

1 Cup of Quinoa
24 whole almonds
1 cup of green veggie (spinach or green beans preferred)

Meal 3

6 oz. Tofu (Organic baked tofu Sriracha flavor, or comparable brand)
1/2 Cup of Quinoa
1 cup of green veggie (spinach or green beans preferred)

Hadi Choopan Shares Physique Update During Olympia Prep: Can He Take Home The 2022 Title?

Hadi Choopan Shares Physique Update During Olympia Prep: Can He Take Home The 2022 Title?

Hadi Choopan continues to look extremely conditioned during his prep.
There are many who believe that Hadi Choopan showed up to the Olympia in October in the best shape. It seems as though Choopan is continuing to dominate his prep after sharing a physique update showing off his crazy conditioning and size.
Choopan took to Instagram to share a physique and posing update on Tuesday. In the video, Choopan is seen hitting some of his favorite poses that help him on stage. On stage last year, Choopan made glaring improvements to his physique, which already had him stamped in the top three or four competitors. Now, he is hitting the offseason hard once again in hopes of bringing home the Sandow Trophy.
“My beauty is the creation of God and the help of millions of people”

Is 2022 The Year For Hadi Choopan?
Hadi Choopan made his debut on the Olympia stage in 2019, where he finished third. He returned to the stage in 2020 and dropped one spot before returning to the top-three in 2021. Despite his finish, there are many that believe Choopan should have been crowned champion in October.
Choopan finished third behind Brandon Curry and two-time reigning champion Big Ramy. There is a clear top-tier of competitors and Choopan is part of that group. Hunter Labrada and Nick Walker are looking to insert their names into the conversation after a fourth- and fifth-place finish respectively.

Hadi Choopan shared a physique update back in March where it is clear that he put on some more size. In this update, he has worked on conditioning and is looking absolutely shredded. The work that Choopan puts in cannot be questioned and this puts him in a good position moving forward.
Choopan is coached by Hany Rambod, who has handled some of the top talents in bodybuilding history. This include seven-time Olympia champ Phil Heath. Rambod led the charge of those who believed that Choopan sported the best physique on stage in last year’s competition. Now, the duo will look to take the next step.
Hadi Choopan has remained extremely consistent over the years and continues to make improvements to a championship-caliber physique. It seems as though each physique update shows a competitor getting closer and closer to being stage ready.

Why CBD Sleep Gummies Are Essential to Maximizing Gym Gains

Why CBD Sleep Gummies Are Essential to Maximizing Gym Gains

Learn why CBD sleep gummies before bed will optimize your sleep and help you gain muscle and lose body fat.
Sleep is imperative to anyone’s fitness and bodybuilding goals. Arguably, sleep is the most critical part of your health. And not getting enough sleep will make gaining muscle and losing body fat impossible. But sleep conditions, such as insomnia, are widespread, and, unfortunately, many people have to suffer from sleep issues routinely. However, one natural herb is promising for its effectiveness in improving your sleep quality, so you can continue to make the gains in the gym you want. This herb is cannabidiol (CBD)–specifically CBD sleep gummies.
CBD is widespread these days, but many people wonder what it is, what it does, and how effective it is. CBD advertised for its health benefits is relatively new, so some people are skeptical if it works and of its potential side effects. Furthermore, it often gets confused with its cannabis cousin, THC, which causes a high that many users would like to avoid.
THC can be an effective remedy for improving your sleep, but what if you don’t want to experience the mind-altering effects it causes? Well, CBD can vastly improve your sleep without any psychoactive effects.
CBD is found in the cannabis plant Cannabis sativa. THC is another cannabidiol found in cannabis, except it’s known for the psychoactive sensation of getting high. However, CBD isn’t psychoactive, which makes it alluring to people who want to receive the benefits cannabis offers without mind-altering effects.
There are various ways to consume CBD, including oil extract, topicals, vapes, tinctures, and gummies (edibles). This article will cover how CBD can improve your sleep and provide other benefits, such as pain relief. We’ll also cover the different ways to consume CBD and why you should take CBD gummies before bed.
Benefits of CBD

CBD has many benefits, including pain relief, decreased stress and anxiety, and better sleep. It has similar benefits to its hemp brother THC, except without all the psychoactive effects THC causes.
CBD Benefits

Better Sleep: This 2019 study found that CBD can be effective in improving your sleep (1).
Less Anxiety: Taking 300 mg of CBD can significantly reduce your anxiety levels (2).
Pain Relief: Studies have shown that CBD affects your endocannabinoid (regulates pain) receptor activity to reduce chronic pain (3).
Reduce Muscle Soreness: CBD may also be effective at reducing muscle soreness after a workout or sporting event.

Besides the high many marijuana users experience, many other alternatives such as pharmaceutical drugs have side effects, including fatigue, insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. Comparatively, CBD has minimal side effects–although, some users report dry mouth, diarrhea, reduced appetite, and drowsiness.
How to Take
You can consume CBD in various ways, including CBD gummies, CBD oil, and CBD topicals. Below we’ll dive into the differences between different CBD consumptions and the pros and cons.

Gummies (Edible): If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll want to consume CBD via gummies. That’s because gummies come in different flavors and taste good. However, CBD gummies must go through your digestive system since they’re taken orally, so they won’t be as fast-acting as other methods.
Oil: CBD oils have to go through your digestive system, too, although you can put them underneath your tongue, allowing them to travel through your system faster. That’s because we have tiny blood vessels in our tongues. Also, oils can be consumed through your favorite beverage (tinctures), including coffee and tea, and you can even make a CBD cocktail.
Topicals: Topicals are best suited post-workout since they’ll penetrate your skin faster than edibles and help with post-workout recovery immediately. CBD topical cream gives you a cooling sensation on your skin and helps relieve muscle pain better since it’s applied directly over your muscles.
Vapes: You can also consume CBD via smoking. This is the fastest-acting since it immediately travels through your lungs and bloodstream. However, many experts question the safety of smoking CBD.

Why CBD Sleep Gummies Are Necessary

Of course, insomnia and other sleep disorders are prevalent conditions many people face. And since CBD has been shown to relax you (vital for sleep), it’s an effective natural remedy to improve your sleep. So sleep CBD is necessary because it will aid you in getting optimal sleep, which is paramount for anyone’s fitness and bodybuilding success.
Sleeping is essential for muscle-building, fat loss, and general health. Your fitness goals will suffer if you aren’t getting enough quality sleep. In addition, your gains from working out don’t happen while working out; they happen while you recover. And sleep is an essential part of the recovery process.
One crucial hormone sleep has a significant impact on is testosterone. Testosterone is responsible for many functions, including muscle growth, libido, energy levels, and mood. A study of young men concluded that just five hours of sleep decreases testosterone by 10-15% (4).

PNBA Bodybuilder Tommi Thompson: The All-Natural Way To Burn Fat Without Losing Muscle

PNBA Bodybuilder Tommi Thompson: The All-Natural Way To Burn Fat Without Losing Muscle

PNBA bodybuilder Tommi Thompson is prepping for the World Championships In Florence, Italy… and shares some of his contest prep tips before the big night.
This weekend holds the INBA/PNBA Pro/Am World Championships in Florence, Italy. It’s one of the biggest bodybuilding competitions of the year for the league – and a huge opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Natural Olympia. It’s also a great moment for bodybuilders to represent their country during a varied international event. In our latest GI Exclusive, we sat down with Tommi Thompson to discuss his bodybuilding journey, contest prep breakdown, and how he burns fat without losing muscle the all-natural way.
Tommi Thompson is a Men’s Open bodybuilder in the INBA/PNBA natural bodybuilding league. He’s been a rising star in the sport – with the benefit of being trained by former Natural Olympia champion Philip Ricardo Jr. Thompson is looking to make waves this year – and the upcoming World Championships this weekend is his first big opportunity to take it to the next level.
During our interview we go into detail about Tommi Thompson’s bodybuilding origins, how Philip Ricardo Jr. became his coach, and why he chose to go all-natural and compete in the INBA/PNBA league. You can watch his comments on this and more in the video above. But for now – we wanted to focus on his tips and strategies for cutting fat and keeping muscle while remaining an all-natural athlete.
How to naturally burn fat and maintain muscle
Tommi Thompson will be the first person to tell you that the journey of being a pro bodybuilder is to be an eternal student. Every year and every new competitive season, Thompson is adjusting and reformulating how to improve his physique even further. The same is true for his tactics during contest prep and cutting weight. The goal is to lose weight and get shredded without burning away that hard earned muscle.
With the INBA/PNBA being a tested league, there are less supplemental options to help during the cutting phase of bodybuilding. So what is Thompson’s current strategy for burning fat without losing muscle? He currently focuses on consistently maintaining heavy reps.
Typically, trainers would suggest that reps increase and weight decreases during the cutting phase of contest prep. But Tommi Thompson wants to try and keep his weight heavy so that his muscle maintains the massive size he’s built earlier in the season. He does combine this with cardio in order to get that extra edge on hardening up his physique.
What might be most shocking is that Thompson reveals he does 90 minutes of cardio each day. That’s a lot of cardio compared to the standard in bodybuilding. There are even some pros who avoid cardio completely. Thompson is aware of this – and knows that too much cardio can start cannibalizing muscle. That’s why every week he steps back and reevaluates his body and adjusts accordingly.
Sometimes he may pull back on cardio for the week. Or perhaps another week he will lighten the weight and increase reps. Like a sculpter making a statue – he continues to adjust and mold his approach until he puts together the perfect package.
Wrap Up
Tommi Thompson is a promising young bodybuilder with a lot of momentum behind him. He’ll put his latest training and diet tactics to the test this weekend when he competes at the World Championships in Florence, Italy. Only time will tell what kind of impact he will have on the league and the sport.
Until then, you can watch Tommi Thompson go into detail about his contest prep tactics, as well as many other topics, in our latest GI Exclusive interview above.
