Is 6 scoops of protein a day too much>?

I drink around 3 in every shake. I used to drink as many as 5 shakes a day. But skip has me on more solid food. Now I only get 3 max. But still that is 8-9 scoops a day.

I would suggest 8 serv daily...that is an easy 160 gms protein...

6 scoops = 160grams for me - Optimum Nutrition, Usually get 6-9 scoops day depending on how much "real" food i eat

So.. how much is too much?

I know that a very high protein diet can lead to kidney problems.
Any numbers on how much is too much?

In addition to all my solid foods (lots of steaks) when I am bulking, I also have like 7-8 shakes a day. (One after each meal and 1 after workout) Each one has 6 scoops in it, but that only makes each shake like 40g of protein... so I'm getting like 280g of protein a day from shakes...

then also throw in about 4 steaks a day and a bunch of eggs... who knows how much I am getting... hopefully at least 2g per pound of body weight. (I weigh 225 now)

All I can do is continue to check the bloodwork at the doctor. Did that today... results next week... but I am guessing the kidneys are still fine... I'm not pissing blood yet. *grin*

Most people's body's can only process 50g of protein at a time... 3 scoops would be > 70g... and the whey protein is very readily available, takes very little digestion, so that makes it even worse. I'd say 2-3 meals per day of whey is ok, make sure you get enough real food, though!

I agree with Al, The majority of your protein AND other caloric intake should come from whole foodS. That's why the protein powder is called a SUPPLEMENT. My .02

I have always wondered about this. When this study was done was it on athletes with large proportion's or on regular joe's? You would think that the body's ability to use protien would be proportional to the amount of protien that could be used. IE Andre the Giant could probably use a lot more protien per dar or meal than Lil Kim. Just a question no real answers.

anybody actually have a study on hand proving that you can only digest 30-50g at one time please...because if this is just some bs created by those that give us the 04.grams of protein per pound of bodyweight I say its bullshit. According to this article the use of protein supplements is unnessary and only 15% of your calories should come from protein.

Lot's of guys out there just haven't been able to put all the pieces of the growth puzzle together and grow little or not at all. Here is an absolutely simple thing (but hard to do at times) that will make a world of difference with your results:

If you are under 200 lbs when ever you eat you get at least 75 grams of protein.

If you are 200 up everytime you eat you shovel 100-125 grams of protein down.

WOW that was simple. Of course the numbers are genralities and perhaps better numbers are 1.5-1.75 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight if training clean, and 2 grams per lb when on gear.

Most people rarely get those numbers consistently and most people rarely grow consistently. This is a big reason as to why.

Now IA and DC seem to know what they are talking about, these aren't the kind of guys that repeat something they heard from some GNC guy or anything. So I would like to see some studies, to know if the average 2,000 cal diet joe blow on his couch can only digest 30-50grams at one time or if BB who go through forced feeding and eating 6-8 meals or more daily can digest more.

I've been told that you can only digest 20 grams of protien at a time. But I've also read that these studies where on average Joes, not weightlifters or athletes. How come none of the top supp companies have not conducted any studies on this? Or maybe they have, and we do eat to much protien. They sure as hell wouldn't want to tell us about it. That would be like the gas companies telling us that we could use pure ethanol and save tons of money. Just a thought.
