Protien and Fat

I've recently tried uping my protien to 400gms pd. I've notice an increase in fat along side, has any else ever experience this while upping thier protien? I was unaware that protien alone would have this affect on me.

What did you up it from? I'm also assuming that you upped your total calories, too (you didn't drop any fat and carb calories when you raised your protein). You probably need to readjust your calorie intake to account for the additional protein, and also look at whether you are taking in additional carbs and fat along with the additional protein.

I agree with Al, If your protein increase is in the form of pro drinks etc you most likely should not experience the fat increase unless your total caloric intake is way above your maintanance baseline. If you are getting the additional protein via whole food sources you will get many addtional calories as well.

I ran the diet off of my BMR and cut my carbs down to about 100gms ed. Stats are 6'1 230 20% I was at 18% about 2 weeks ago. I also stopped taking my R-ALA with my carb meals 3 weeks ago as I have recently read a study that showed it may cause cellular damage at the doses I was taking 1000mgs ed. It just seems like it's pulling teeth get me to lose any bf but, I tend to maintain and gain it with no problem. I don't like to think I'm an Endo but, maybe I am.

With that low of carbs, your metabolism is probably slowing to a crawl. At that bf%, you would probably do really well on a body-for-life type diet, about equal portions of protein and carbs, with some (but not alot) good fats from fish, nuts, avacados, etc. When I've done low carbs, I've dropped weight quickly for about 2 weeks, then stalled.

You know that's what worked really well for me in the past it's more like a 40 30 30 type of diet. Since I've been on the boards I've read about a lot of guys eating like horses and being around 8 % with out trying. I know genetics plays a part but, when I tried it I just got fat. I also have gain good deal of muscle in the last 6months as well. about 12lbs natrual but, the fat carried over.

That's great info though thanks for the help, I'll keep carbs around 250 300 and the rest should fall in line, I'll just cut my fats a little. The lowest I've been is around 13% and I look decent I would love to get it down to about 10% and then go back on. Thanks again for the help.

No problem... yeah, it worked really well for me too. I got down to between 10 and 8% (from ~50) in 36 weeks doing body for life (my pics are in the natural transformations forum)...

I don't mind gaining a little bodyfat in the interest of putting on more muscle......I'm still a perty mutha f*cka even with a 'lil dewlap

Hey bro, i have similar stats to yourself in height and weight I am 5'11 228lbs now but approx 5-6 % BF Your carbs at 100g/day could still be causing you to hold BF..I know i have to drop to around 60 g/day to see significant loss. Also eating more carbs will not speed up your meabolic rate..the bodies metabolism becomes sluggish when you eat a higher carb diet due to the fact that carbs are much easier to process (ie. less energy expened) than fat. My suggestion to you would be to increase EFA's (essential fatty acids) primarily omega 3 such as flax oil because it acts as an uncoupler. My AMR is 3375 calories per day to maintain..i usually drop to 2500 for significant fat loss approx 1.5-2 lbs per week. If u are using a strong androgen you will not lose muscle..i usually gain muscle slightly on such a diet. I keep my protein between 1.5-2 g/lb bodyweight and my efa's .5-.75 g/lb bw...the only carbs i consume are 30 g 50/50 dextrose glucose mixture post workout...and green fibrous veggies....give it a try it work for myslf and my clients. ECA stack 3-4 times per day....cardio 45 min am prior to eating and post workout 45 min...

Peace,
P

Great post that's pretty much what I've been doing except for the am cardio and ECA. I do post cardio and no ECA to sensitive. I've also found that when I go totally low carb (less than 100) my brain doesn't work and I get depressed to the point where I don't want to work out. It's like living hell more so than just restricking my diet. I'm curious though you state that dropping carbs wont reduce my metobolic rate... Do you have an article or a referrence i could check to support this. I'm very interested in this specifically.

Hey bro..your metabolic rate will drop on any less then maintenance calorie diet...but carbs are not usually the culprit. Leptin levels can drop due to low carbs as well as t4 production levels, which in turn inevitably drops t3 levels. I use exogenous t3 (cytomel) to circumvent the thyroid issue and i use a carb up day to circumvent the leptin issue. Every 7th day i have a carb up day comprised of yams/sweet potatoes with table syrup (aunt jamima's etc) I try to consume 60-100 grams carbs per meal with about 4-6 meals depending on how i feel..plus i use slin about 5-6 iu's with meals. This allows your muscles to refill fully and if you keep fat very low and protein only moderate you wont store anything but you will feel amazing. There are a few articles..i will have to search to find..i can suggest checking out metabolicdiet.com and fatwars.com, as well as jayrobb.com under the articles section. All good info. The main idea behind this type of diet is to trick the body into using bodyfat for fuel while trying tyo maintain a fast metabolism...hence the cardio and weight training and t3 and carb ups...good luck bro!
Peace,
P
