Squatting = Distended Belly ?

"Yeah, I said it. Why? Well, for the most part one REAL big factor. Stretching the abdominal cavity. Don't believe me. The low ride of the bar on the rear delts shifts the center of gravity. This gives you the BEST position to really move alot of weight. BUT there is a strain on the abdominal wall which is pushed out and stretched. Over time? Abdominal distention. Just a theory but you'll be amazed what Redline makes you think about in the wee hours of the morning.

So am I saying dont power squat? No. Just dont do it all the time. Limit it AND make sure you are wearing a belt around the belly button region."

Got this off of IntenseMuscle.com....what do you think of this little theory? Wouldn't this mean that things like good mornings, lunges and anything with the bar on your back cause abdominal distension?

Whew....was kinda getting nervous about this. I have a slight distended belly, but have always had it since I was little. Maybe from all the rice I eat....since im Korean and all :p

It mostly seems to happen for most people because of the amount of food they eat. I had some distension before I started on HRT, and I was trying to eat a lot more at the time. I do squat heavy and have done so from the beginning so this whole post makes me wonder. I'm sure genetics have a role in it. Is it possible to collect fat _underneath_ the wall of ab muscles all around the organs? I tested at 9.6% bf recently, but I can only think that besides food, I must be carrying some fat underneath the muscle wall because if I fast for a day (so the food goes out) I get a much slimmer stomach, but I'm still not completely flat. (of course I'm 36 so that also has something to do with it.)

i have noticed somewhat of a distention in my stomach...i think it is mostly due to deadlifts though.

I believe that is my case as well.
just before you start the rep do you tense your stomach to creat pressure on the belt? i feel this is where i have gotten somewhat of distended stomach from. the food is probably secondary for me and i dont think i got them from squats because i really try to control my breathing when squatting.

belly

I think a lot of it come sfrom just using really damn big wights on all body parts, especially legs and back, teh abs have to suport the body and weight by stabilizing and in turn they get very very thick, no wsome have down right problems but i find a lot are just from that

That is exactly what I do and I surmise that is a culprit(and the food of course)

it so hard to tell forsure what it coudl be. narrow it down to a few of these things. for me i htink its just cuz i eat to much and drink to much liquid. who knows.

Yeah, i would have to say no. I dont get a distended belly when i diet down and i still squat. I think this is more of a diet issue than a lifting one.
