Dead Lifts... Why do they make you sick?

After 3 heavy dead lift sets at 8 reps I felt like I was going to puke today. My head was throbbing and my eyes felt like they were going to pop out of my head. Howver, I felt INTENSE. I stacked on more weight than ever before and was spitting all over myself in the middle of reps. It was killer. However, it ruins the rest of my day, I feel terrible! Should I be doing dead lifts as my first exercise, or last? Ive been doing them first and just plain murdering the rest of the workout, no pumps in ANY muscle. What do I do?

I normally put deads first because i train like a powerlifter, but if your goals are purely bodybuilding and you need more width then go ahead and start with your chins or pulldowns. And i know what you mean about the pressure, i sometimes feel like my head is gunna pop off my shoulders, lol. I personally don't find doing them first ruins the rest of my workout, try doing them in the middle or last, either way your body adapts, i've put hams before squats and at first my squat went down but in like 2 weeks i adapted and got it back up.

I think it should be rotated from time to time to help you focus on other excerises. Sounds to me like you were doing the valsava manuver. Holding your breath as you rose with the bar.

The feeling you are experiencing is from your blood sugar going low. Some people get that from really intense exercise like deads and squats. I used to get it myself until I made sure I ate something at least 1.5 to 2 hours before working out (or you could sip some form of carb drink during your workout). If you use up your glycogen stores on the heavy intense exercises in the beginning, then yes, the rest of your workout will suffer. That's why many people will do say only squats and deads and calves in one workout for legs.

Sometimes it's the increase in acid from intense workouts......This is why some guys chug a spoonful of baking soda before doing legs.

I only get that "eyes popping out feeling" when my BP is too high. In fact, i can tell if my BP is too high just by doing military presses, or deads. I would get that checked out.

i think its because of over stimulation of the cns and the release of high amounts of endorphins into the bloodstream

OMG thats disgusting bro

I like to do them first to get them out of the way...that is also the exercise that requires the most effort for me.
