Deads and shins

Fellas, when ever I deadlift, I alway f%$^ up my shins. I end up with nasty scabs and bloody socks. Doesn't matter if I go heavy or light, it always happens. The only way I can avoid this is to do rack deads, but I don't think I benifit from them as I do from the real ones. Anybody else have this issue, and if so, any ideas on how to prevent it or help lessen the scraping??

form bro, you need to practice the move with no weight on the bar. keep your head up and don't look at yourself in the mirror. I get a good scrape here or there but if you're getting them everytime, heavy or light you're definitely doing something wrong

some of my PL buddies wear soccer shinguards....try lowering the weight in a more controlled manner..its hard as hell though when your using some serious poundage

I have to go with mikeswift on this one. Your form is off.

Some kid, a couple years ago, taught me how to perform a deadlift. I find them very refreshing and I am confused how you scrape your shins from it. Is there different forms of dead lifts...I just can't figure this one out boys.

I use dumbells mostly, but even when I use a barbell I have no problems. Gotta bump the other guys on the form.

I have heard my form is ok, but maybe not?! I try to keep the bar as close to my body as possible throughout the whole lift and end up knicking my shins each time. I have heard chalk will help this too?!?

Try DBs bro. you don't need as much weight and you can let the DBs roll to the side when approaching the bottom which prevent you from hitting your shin.

yeah, i think im going to throw them in the next time i do back. do you guys do these first?? when you do back

I either do them first or last, never in the middle. I switch every week. Light at the end, heavy at the beginning the next week. I think I'll try them with DB's to see how that feels. Nothing like picking up a huge ass bar off the floor though...

Ouch!!! Now I can see that happening...crap! I bet you said something not-so-good. :p

I use to bench at the gym and I had always used the Smith-press because I had no spotter. That bar was 15lbs. Well, one day that machine was occupied so I decided to just use the normal press. I thought since I was use to the weight I would up it 10lbs.

I forgot that the bar weighed more (45 pounds). Since I didn't have a spotter I didn't clamp the bar...just in case. Good thing I didn't!!! I said something real pretty when I went up the second time and realized I couldn't handle it...glad I didn't clamp that weight on there. Spilled the weight off...got up and acted like nothing happened. :embarrass

Bro,
I was taught to Deadlift when I was a teenager by the top deadlifter in the World Barry Lafoy 148, 165, World Champ. If your not getting scrapes your not deadlifting. For every inch the bar is away from your shins that adds another 100lbs. Get a pair of very thick socks and maybee some tights pluss baby powder. A little blood is worth it. Deadlifts are second to none in MASS. P
