Squats and foot pain

After doing squats, I have noticed a dull pain in my right foot. I had the same probelm a year ago doing calf extensions using the leg press machine (but only when the weight was over 1000 pounds using both legs).

I find that my right foot starts to hurt shortly after I finish. Though it hurts less in a few days, it still hurts when I do squats again five days later. No sharp pain, just a dull pain in the middle of the foot.

Any suggestions? Should I wear boots to do this? My normal lifting shoes are just running shoes - I know that isn't the best. I am thinking that maybe I need more arch support or something. I am afraid it might be a stress fracture and I REALLY don't want to stop doing squats unless I have to do that.

My usual workout is a warmup set of ten at 405, a set of ten at 585, then a set of seven or so (whatever I can do) at 705. I will often finish with a set of real deap squats at 405, depending on my lower back.

Are you a real doctor? If so, wouldn't you kow what was wrong with your foot?

Anywho, I wear basketball sneakers when doing legs so that my feet and ankles are protected. I have had that pain also and no stress fractures were found.

Bill, I've got a PhD, not an MD. Besides, most MDs don't deal with folks who move a lot of weight. I have actually gotten more accurate advice HERE than visiting my Doc. But she is a lot prettier than YOUR picture, and she gives me drugs, so I go and visit her often.

Glad to read that I am not alone in having that pain (though sorry that you had the same probelm.)

stress fractures tend to hurt more just when releasing the pressure of the weight after the exercise, i had this in my forearm, after doing my reps on the bench the pain would throb like through the bone it felt just when i was racking the weight on the bench, sounds similar

That is not me in my pic; I am a pretty mofo in real life.
