"Elvis Presley dead at age 42".

I am 40 years old and I remember sitting on my livingroom floor on August16,1977 and seeing the news with Walter Cronkite telling world that "The King of Rock and Roll" was found dead of a heart attack.

Elvis had been and still is my favorite entertainer of all time. His later years were sad but I remember the last 18 years of his carrer. No matter your view or opinion of Elvis there is not a single guy alive who would not want to be Elvis from his days in 1957 in Tupalo, Mississippi and his shows at State Fairs to his days at Graceland in Memphis..

The guy had it all at his feet and wanted for nothing except total happiness and his love of his mother who died 20 years earlier... Money can buy you almost anything.... except happiness.

A true talent and a tragic end to a wonderful human being like so many other great entertainers..

hell im only 22 and i like elvis music. Im more of a johnny cash fan from that era. In fact i had a tear in my eye when johnny cash finally died :(.

I was only 7 years old when Elvis died but I remember how hard it was on all of the adults around me and I think that's why I felt it too. I didn't completely understand it until years later but he trully was a gifted man.

right with ya bro, I remember watching Elvis on TV all the time when I was a young lad. man he was really looking bad there before the end. I saw a picture of him in 1970 and seven years can change a person from day to night.

"In the ghetto..."

Elvis was great, truly. He had his demons like everyone else. The routine of financial freedom, attention, temptation...it all contributed to his demise. Wish he was still around, but I wish a lot of people were still around, just as great, with much less notoriety. After all he was only human like the rest of us.

Talented, in the right place at the right time, the right face. Got caught up in the storm of fame I guess.

My Dad played in the Johnny Cash Show back in the late 60's and into the early 70's. He also had teh priviledge of knowing Elvis from 1972-1977. He was invied to 2 Christmas Parties at Graceland and when ever Elvis was in town and my Dad was not on teh road playing Elvis's road manager Charlie Hodge or Joe Espisito would send a limo to get my Dad for a show or for dinner... He said Elvis was a very nice guy who lost sense of reality the last 2 years due to the drugs but always remained a good friend to him..

Infact while attending one the Graceland Parties my Dad had a chance to play the guitar while Elvis played the piano and sang all played and sang together for a few songs... My Dad tells the story as if it was the guy down teh road and it was not a big deal.. My Dad is humble like that. I did not even hear this story till I was about 23 years old.. Wish there were pictures of that night.. Pretty cool just the same.

that is an awesome story bro, that'll be cool to sit around and tell your kids someday, that their Grandfather used to hang out with Elvis. Pretty cool indeed.

The grandkids will say "Who??" LOL I remember when he died and thinking how
old he was - I done passed him up - Dam!!!!

He bought Graceland for $100,000 at the age of 22.

He did the first unplugged TV telecast at age 31 "68 Comeback" Special

He did a world broadcast for over 1/3 of the world at the age of 37.
When was the last time 33% of the world watched the same thing at once?

He was 41 years old and had made 32 movies, 3 movies a year for 10 straight years. 2 follow up documentaires.

At age 42 he was gone... some amazing stats Could be posted from his Gold records and albums to his single record record..

What a shame to loose someone like him so early in life. We missed alot of good years... You guessed by now I am a huge fan.
