Alistair Overeem defeated Fabricio Werdum in the main event of Saturday night's Strikeforce event in Dallas, winning a unanimous decision and showing why nearly everyone agrees that he's the best heavyweight fighting under the Strikeforce banner.

Overeem did not, however, blow Werdum away, the way many expected him to. Instead, he fought a safe and cautious fight and won a unanimous decision. The judges scored it 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28 for Overeem, who defended his performance afterward.

"Fabricio is one of the best grapplers in the world -- I consider him the best grappler in MMA. So we don't want to play with him on the ground," Overeem said.

Was it not a title fight? I haven't been following Strikeforce much lately, so I don't know who has the belt. But, surely a title fight wasn't three rounds.

i totally forgot about it too, im gonna catch the replay whenever it comes on... overreem all the way baby

I saw the replay last night. Fabricio spent a lot of time on the ground, trying to lure Overeem down, but he wouldnt go, and kept motioning for him to stand up. Overeem is one big jacked dude for that sport. If he got sauced to the gills with slin/gh/gear.... holy hell he would be huge!!

a 3 orginization champ, they need to bring these good heavyweights to ufc already. maybe after the grand prix is done

I'm sure they'll be over in the UFC fighting within a few more months. I'm anxious for it too, that's the only division that really seems to be better than the current competition in the UFC
