Thought some of you might find this interesting. I called my lab supply source to find out what carrier oil is the thinnest. Most people seem to think that grapeseed oil is the thinnest. I was surprised when they responded and told me the thinnest oil they carry is cottonseed. So i did some research to find out what oil is the thinnest and this is what i found.
castor - 297.0 thickest
crambe - 53.6
high oleic safflower - 41.2
peanut - 39.6
sunflower - 37.1
grapeseed - 37.0
sesame - 35.3
corn - 34.9
cottonseed - 33.5
soybean - 32.6
safflower - 31.3 thinnest
There are some other carrier oils available like rice oil, apricot kernel, coconut, sweet almond oil, avocado, flaxseed, and watermelon seed oil.
As i find the viscosities of these carriers I will add them to the list.
Ive also learned that some carrier oils have better shelf lives than others. For instance, grapeseed oil only has a shelf life of 6-12 months. I would imagine that adding BA to the mix increases its shelf life. Watermelon seed oil is extremely stable and has an almost indefinite shelf life. Its pretty thin too, but i dont know the exact viscosity, so i dont know where it falls on the scale above.
