Just wanted to share the bucks we took this year. We managed to get two more kids their first buck ever this year. My total is now 8 kids in the last 5 years or so harvesting a buck for the first time. The biggest was my dad's rough score of 152inches. Im sure you'll be able to tell which one it is. My uncle also took a decent one scoring 138 inches.

That's awesome Bro! Silk and I just bought 10.8 acres in the Tennessee mountains. I'm embarrassed to say it, but I've never killed a deer or hog or anything and gutted, skinned, and quartered it. I'm watching YouTube videos trying to learn now. I'll probably try my hand on some squirrels when we go back up. I also need to get a nice 308 to kill deer with. I don't think a 5.56 AR15 would be too efficient... or sporting Lol!

What all do you guys do with the deer meat? I know you eat it, i mean what kind of meats or cuts, or jerky ect??

Presser it's called Venison sir.. Meat quality depends on age and look of meat. If old and ragged then venison hamburger or sausage and jerky. I make mine all jerky no matter if it's a doe or a buck .

Jpotch how many bales of hay did it take to lure them to your front yard bro?

Can't hunt with AR-15 or 30 dude . U go to grey bar motel for that. Get a nice 243. And quality scope. And a big knife for Silk to rip the guts out.

.308 is actually pretty large, I'd use that on some elk or larger. You bet your ass a .223 or NATO round will knock one down. I like .270 and .300 win/mag, great all around hunting rifles. Hell I'd put some BDU's and pretend I'm a sniper with an AR lol

I only keep elk and even then I keep a little bit. My friends and I always donate the harvest to Hunters for the Hungry. If I lived on a farm I'd keep that meat though.

We keep some of it and donate most to a loval food pantry. We have cows on the farm so we dont really need it. The meat we keep is usually made into jerky.

Dude, i love a .308. Its my weapon of choice for whitetail. 30-06 is another good one but ammo for .308 is cheap

nice bro i didnt get to go at all this year bleck, break ups, moves, finances. Hope to get back out next year though. Got 7 deer heads in my spare room in my apt floor lol not gonna hang them in here. I miss the buck fever bad, I also use a .308 with a leupold scope.

I'm still totally naive about the laws. Apparently I don't need a license since its my property. Regardless of how unsporting it is, it sounds pretty dumb to tell someone what they can shoot an animal with on their own property. It wouldn't surprise me though.

Now thats the kinda shit i miss living in Florida. We have deer, but if you saw them you wouldnt think thats what they are. The only good hunting here is boar IMO.

Yeah the game wardens theory is the AR goes thru an animal too
cleanly and they can run for miles and die later and hunter won't make effort to follow so lots of unneccessary dead deer not being eaten.

Now I don't know all state laws but in my state even landowner needs a license and can only hunt during designated hunting times in the hunting guidebook per state. Recently landowners have been getting in trouble here for shooting wolves that eat their cows. Another government protected animal of bs..

check out tndeer.com

careful in the mountains there are lots of meth labs and pill billies

BTW I use a Remington 700 that shots a 308 round

Well, the AR thing makes sense to those that don't know actual penetration rates for 5.56 vs 308 or 30-06. Any other those rifles will have more penetration than a 5.56.

Who here is hunting in Florida? I'd love to go sometime, but I honestly wouldn't know where to start. I need to learn the whole process. Gutting, skinning, quartering and then what to do with the meat and how to dry the hide...

My reasoning for wanting a 308 if I have to get another rifle is its good for killing all kinds of big game (wink wink). Most 308 rounds are 168-175 grain so I think that would work.
Jpotch I'm all for hearing about the hunting experience. Where did you go? How long were you out? What times? Rifles? Scopes?? Anything you want to share!

here is my $1 or 2 cents worth however you want to look at it (since the US dollar is only backed by 2.2 cents of gold)

you really can't go wrong with the 308 round, I like Remington 700 and Winchester 70

optics go with Leupold or Bushnell

learn how to set up your scope for natural point of aim, get a cheek rest, etc.

check out (how to set up your scope for success) on Youtube

dry firing is a great exercise make sure you use a snap cap so you don't wear out your firing pin

you can also use a laser bore sight to monitor your breathing technique as you get your mold

if you get a hawk bill knife it will make skinning the deer a lot easier-go to Youtube there a lot of good videos on skinning game...like anything else it will come with time

go for a spine shot this will drop the deer where it stands and you don't have to waste half a day chasing it, and all that adrenaline will give it a gamey taste-spine shot then finish it off

also, learn how to track the game-not just deer but any game

Woodsmaster has a good DVD on this, I believe it's Vol. 8-this is primarily for tracking humans but has merit in deer or any animal
