I am going to compete for the first time here in July. Like to know who here competes or use to. Tell us a little about it and how far you want to go with it.

Competed first time last july. Got 4th in line up of dudes who were 8+ yrs older than me. Fucked up my color really bad and could have been leaner. Judges said I was supposed to be a shoe in for 2nd

im going to compete in July's hot dog eating contest lol naw i got much respect for those who do compete its just not in the cards for me or at least for awhile. ive read many logs on here folks going for pro cards 2 should have got them

I use to compete as did my wife, its a blast defmetal! As for aspirations of going pro, nah i never had delusions of grandeur! I knew by my 3rd show it wasn't for me to pursue any further, My first show, i won Novice overall , and heavy weight open, 2nd show i won heavy weight, 3rd show i won heavy weight, but i fucking hated dieting, and knew i didn't have what it took to go any further! I did it for the fun of it, and because I'm competitive by nature, plus it was something my wife and I did together that we loved! But I am 6'3 and I couldn't compete with the light heavy guys, if i wanted to keep going and be competitive at a higher level like nationals, or Juniors, I would have had to walk around at 370lbs or more, and i was already 320lbs off season, and it was NOT even close to what i needed to be competitive with the big boys

Truth is i had some friends who were ifbb pros at the time back then, and they were poor as fuck! I mean so BROKE they couldn't PAY attention! lmao

So not trying to discourage anyone, but competing is a whole different beast, and those guys don't fuck around. I just didn't have it, but its fun as fuck, and networking and meeting new people was amazing, my favorite part about competing was meeting new folks, my wife competed and she traveled to different states and such and we met loads of great folks, as for me i only ever did local shows when they came around, my wife had much better genetics then me and could have went much further, but when i stopped, she stopped as well a couple shows later.

Anyhow, thats my story lol, I love bodybuilding, and respect most anyone who steps on stage with a dedicated/respectable looking package!

And bodybuilding can open up a lot of different doors in your life! You never know where it will take you, or who you might meet and the journey that friendship may take you

Anyhow lol, i rant too much, but i think everyone should experience competing at least once, and give it your fucking all!

Thanks for sharing fellows. Somehow I don't really have any friends in bb. That's why I love to come here and get insight from my brothas with the same passion. Presser I'm glad you said it's a good way to meet people. I would like to have some bb friends outside of this website. Lol. I'm really competitive by nature so I think this will be a lot of fun. Like to see if it's for me and where I can go with it.
Cloud good luck getting your pro card bro. Are you close? You start a thread talking about your prep for the next show you do. Sure a lot of us would be interested.
Presser that has to be tough being 6'3". That is a tough class! Sounds like you were a monster with your placings.
I'm 5'7"-8". I'm hoping to get that lee priest size. Still got a way to go. Haha.

Yeah bro, you'll meet actual people and make real life friends, i promise ya that much, its not like the gym, where guys walk around with attitudes and puffed out chests thinking they're tough guys, lol, Back stage and during pre show meetings, you'll meet really nice down to earth people without attitudes, the guys who compete are already monsters and know it and they need not walk around with attitudes like it is in most gyms, lol, everyone is confident to the point they're friendly, thats my experience anyhow! I only seen a couple dicks at shows, but over all, i met people whom we exchanged phone numbers, met up for gym training sessions, so yeah networking and meeting cool people with like minds is a big big plus , You'll see bro! Some of the nicest people i have ever met were people i met during shows i was either in or attending as a spectator! COOL experience

Awesome. Can't wait. I plan to go to a show in March just to spectate and see what I can expect. Don't get me wrong I have had work out partners and talk to people in gym here and there. But really wouldn't consider those friends. Ya looking forward to getting into this! Never know where it may take me.

Not really sure I wanna just put on some crazy size over the next few years focus on school for now. I have great legs and shoulders but have no triceps and could use more back and chest and just overall fill out alot more.

I've done a few shows and I did well. Did the Southern States a few years ago and was just horrible. I lost an incredible amount of muscle and I was smooth and just terrible. If I knew then what I know now... it is a very rewarding experience. I use to let myself get too fat and then I would overdiet. I think I'm in great shape now and I could be totally show ready in 5-6 weeks, bit that's all behind me. Even being so much smaller I could still be diced at like 210-215 now a days at 5'9.
My advice... don't focus on an "offseason" and "precontest". Figure out your diet and cardio now and stay st 6-7%. It's all about conditioning and it is so much easier to work on your flaws when you are really lean.
I really enjoy the shit out of cardio now

I've made some great friends through bodybuilding. CH3NO2 is probably my most trusted friend and I met him like 15 years ago being in the bodybuilding scene. In fact... ALL of the people I associate with as more than acquaintances are bodybuilders. I find people who do something about their insecurities are usually more confident, secure, and trustworthy than their couch potato counterparts

ya I seem to do the same thing. Go overboard on my bulk then over diet and loose muscle when cutting. Trying to cut cals and carbs real slow this time to avoid that. I'm still higher bf than I hoped to be starting this cycle but just don't want to sacrifice muscle. Staying 6-7% bf year around would be tuff! I just can't wait to get down to about ten right now.

most guys compete at 5-6-7% bro, so yeah you wanna stay close but not always in show shape bf% , most guys who say they competed at 4%bf are really 6-7% and you can win a show at 6% bf! keep in the 10-12% range and you'll always be close to ready very true. but to add good quality muscle don't sweat the %. Just don't get Lee Priest off season fat lmao!!!
