The price per pound of protein can vary greatly depending on the source and quality of the protein. Here are some common sources of protein and their approximate price ranges per pound as of my last knowledge update in September 2021:

Whey Protein: Whey protein is a popular source of protein derived from milk. It's commonly used in protein powders and supplements. Prices can range from $5 to $15 or more per pound, depending on the brand, quality, and quantity you purchase.

Casein Protein: Casein protein is another milk-derived protein, often used in slower-digesting protein supplements. Prices are similar to whey protein, ranging from $5 to $15 per pound.

Plant-Based Proteins: Plant-based protein sources like pea protein, rice protein, and hemp protein can vary widely in price. You can find them in the range of $5 to $20 per pound, depending on the brand and source.

Meat: The price of protein from meat sources (such as chicken, beef, or fish) can vary greatly depending on the type of meat and its quality. It's generally more expensive than protein supplements, ranging from $4 to $20 or more per pound.

Eggs: Eggs are an affordable source of protein, usually costing around $2 to $4 per dozen. A dozen large eggs weigh approximately 1.5 pounds.

Tofu: Tofu, a popular plant-based protein, typically costs around $2 to $4 per pound.

Legumes: Legumes like lentils, beans, and chickpeas are budget-friendly sources of protein, often priced at $1 to $3 per pound.

Please note that prices may have changed since my last update in September 2021, and they can vary based on location, brand, and market conditions. To find the best price per pound of protein, I recommend checking current prices at your local stores, online retailers, or wholesalers, and also consider factors like the quality and nutritional value of the protein source when making your decision.
