A California Highway Patrol officer put an on-duty Chula Vista firefighter in handcuffs for refusing to move his truck while tending to victims of a car crash.

holy shit, i would have thought this was bullshit or a trumped up story, but nope, its actually a cop arresting a firefighter who was doing his job in the middle of an accident, lol, wow!

Uuuuummmmm.... Can't do that.... Someone is going to be disciplined if not fired. In that circumstance it is the FD's scene until they hand it over to Police. That's going to be a bad one.

Ya man. You know I'll stand up for public servants (the real ones... firefighters and cops that recognize that the Constitution, ethics, and morality are the ultimate law of the land) till the end. That is a willful violation of law and a Trooper who's job is 99% traffic stops and crashes knows that. This is a guy that got way too big for his britches. There is no place for that kind of egomaniacal behaviour

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE PROVERBIAL "BIG HEAD" …pun intended! lol

If I were a cop I'd never arrest a fireman in a situation like that. very stupid and VERY unprofessional. No other profession on the planet is revered like Firefighters. Everyone loves them. Cops have a certain following but there is some major hate for cops. This does not serve other good officers well.

These stories really enrage me. It's seems there's no end to some of this massive abuse of power going on in this country. Politics and police alike!! People in such positions of authority, who abuse their power need to be held accountable. Detaining someone unlawfully is bad enough, but now add to the mix it was a firefighter!!! Unheard of. That guy should be fired, but we all know he won't be. I'm sure we've all seen the video of the homeless man begging for his life while getting beaten to death, crying for his father to save him. When did such low standards become acceptable. I never got the memo myself!

Whoa whoa Hoss... When was the last time you've heard of an Officer doing anything questionable and not being held to the highest standard?? Cops get fired and suspended left and right. I knew a guy that got suspended for 3 days for dropping an F bomb at a party!! Off duty!!
Now Higher Ups, that's a different story. I know of a Major that committed a Hit and Run, On Duty, WHILE DRUNK to another Officers personal vehicle and the whole thing was witnessed by a specialized unit and nothing was done! He was allowed to retire after 27 years with a fat pension and his DROP money. The Officer was told to eat it and never bring it up.
NOBODY at the street level gets away with anything if there is ANY evidence to support it.
There are more than 770,000 Law Enforcement Officers in this country. Now tally up the violations of law by every other profession in this country including politicians.... The fact is that its less than 1/100th of a percent of law enforcement Officers that are ever named as possibly involved in Criminal Offenses. Statistics don't lie, but the Media sure is sensational

Omg!! Another one in the books for fucking retard cops. I can't stand police officers. Truth is I've always wanted to be one. But apply daily what I think is right. But still following policy you know. But come on. Have some sence, some of these cops just let the badge get to their heads on a level that isn't even justifiable. Creates anger, and sends a bad message to the youth of our country.

well theres the flaw in your argument brutha! There undoubtedly more prone to getting away with shit, they know it, and thats why theres a lot of dumb shit going on, maybe no more then any other professions, but no less either brutha and people don't know that half of the violations , criminal acts done by cops because it would embarrass the entire outfit, theirs a whole lot more dismissals of officers and firings , forced retirements then people know, thats a fact!

We are likely agreeing. Cops are people, yet they are expected to be extraordinary citizens on and off the job. Look at the recent shooting in Fl In the movie theater. It wasn't an old man that shot another guy... It was a retired Police Officer. Joe Blow gets a DUI and he goes to court, pays his 10K in fees, and loses his license. Same Ofc. Blow who deals with the same life stresses plus everyone else's gets a DUI and he faces all the penalties and will face an additional suspension costing him an additional 12k IF he keeps his job.
I knew a guy that got hit by an old lady driving her car that wanted the parking space he was walking through to back up another Ofc. He got hit, knocked down, yelled "what the fuck is wrong with you", and his supervisor wrote him up for discourtesy. No doubt Police can get into some serious corrupt shit. My point is that when they do its national news. Statistics show it is a fraction of a percent. Did you know many agencies reprimand Ofc's who commit adultery?? Officers face two forms of punishment for every accusation. Criminal and are afforded the same protections as all citizens and then administrative in which they can be reprimanded for literally anything.

I Remember 2 involvements in the LAPD. In both instances all of the Officers involved were criminally tried and fired. There really isn't too much you can do other than that. Would you like public hanging as well?? I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I am saying that they face double jeopardy that normal citizens do not face.

I think public hangings would result is a drastic decrease in crime rates.

Lol! So do I, but for criminal convictions. Most of the time the cop stuff you hear about is Administrative. I will agree that a dirty Cop, Fed, or Politician is about as low as you can go. In those cases depending on the crime I wouldn't be against public hangings!

I saw this. One of my EMT preceptors 10+ years ago got pulled over for speeding to an ER!!!!!!! with a crashing patient. The prick cop waited over an hour outside the ER for the Fire/Medic to come back out. Fuck some of these guys, seriously. If it was another cop they were rushing to the ER it would have been no deal at all.

Damn man. I can't even imagine. It obviously true, but the statute reads that an emergency vehicle with lights and siren activated does not have to abide by posted speed or other traffic laws as long as they operate the vehicle with due regard. Other vehicles are required by statute to yeild and move to the furthest curb lane and slow to 25mph under posts speed or 15mph whichever is greater...
That's just morally wrong...
