Hematocrit is the ratio of red blood cells to total volume of your blood. A normal ratio is around 45 for men and 40 for women. It's very important to keep this ratio bc too many RBCs can cause your blood to become more viscous, sludgy and harder to pump. If you workout, and if you take any type of exogenous hormones/androgens, either of those things can cause your body to increase its total RBC count, and by extension increase your hematocrit ratio. Especially if you take certain steroids like anadrol and equipoise,as these were designed specifically to increase RBC(anadrol was originally for anemia). Donating blood every 8 weeks is a great way to not only thin out your blood and reduce your hematocrit ratio, but also potentially save lives. I strongly suggest if you are a bodybuilder/powerlifter/competitor or gym rat who takes anything that resembles androgens, including prohormones and precursors, to get your hematocrit levels checked and donate blood every 8 weeks. Your health should be always be your first concern.

Glad u posted this. Wanted to add that I have had trouble with this. I couldn't ever go enough. Since I started trt my Dr sends me order once a year good for one year to be able to do therapeutic phlebotomy as soon as every 3 weeks or as needed. Longest I can go is about 7 weeks usually have to go every 5. If I get too high I have to go every 3 weeks until low enough. At blood bank they prick finger and only measure hemoglobin. That reference range for men depending on lab is around 14-16.9.
My order allows me to do it as long as it's over 13. If I don't do it at, at least 15 it gets too high and have to go every 3 weeks until low enough. My hemoglobin gets to 19 and 20, it used to alot more before I had control this way. Dr said that high is high risk for heart attack or stroke. I also have lower protein intake the past few years and iron because of this. Now I have to take iron because my storage Iron in body has gotten low. I have went over 18 times in one year because order once was as needed even if that meant twice a week.

Jeez! Is that all while just on TRT?

Therapeutic phlebotomy is a very important tool during aas use and not often enough discussed. Great article

Yes just at 100 mg a week I have to go that often. I have to get hemoglobin down have to keep going to get it under 13 then I can go every 5-6 weeks. On blast have to go around same. Been 5 weeks tomorrow going will post my records it will have date hemoglobin number. When my testosterone stayed under 150 for a year my hemoglobin stayed at 19 did double red blood and still was high and then I got on trt. I know cause I had to get lower before I can start testosterone replacement and Dr gave me order. Don't know how long I been this way all I know is at 19-20 chest hurts pressure is so much when taking blood pressure feels like it is so tight. Also tendons and joints will hurt. They told me I probably have Jak 2 gene mutation. But yes the gear increases it much much more. I have been doing 20 years don't know if that messed with body or not. Know testosterone and other steroids lowers hepicidin which increases Iron absorbing. And in turn increase erythropoietin. At blood bank there is a whole file of people on trt or gear that have this same issue.

Everything I say on here on this forum is say to help someone else from my experience. I never brag or exaggerated anything. I don't even use high high doses of gear anymore and don't participate in craziest cycle threads. I have done this like many of us long enough that it's nothing to be proud of or brag on. It's just the way it is.

Very good post OP, I give blood every 8 weeks or when possible, I think of it as a oil change, I do physically feel better after. Plus your possibly saving a life.

Very interesting. Yah, that's what I was going to say, some people naturally produce much more then others. Have you ever gotten symptoms of polycythemia? I have and it sucks. Some of the symptoms are weird though and i was getting them all at once and never even knew that's what they were associated with.

Some to look out for.

Itching or burning sensation of the butt or back of the legs right after you get out of the shower (this one is particularly annoying)
trouble breathing while laying down. (it was only when i propped by legs up that i would get this pressure in my chest and have trouble breathing)
painful swollen joint (it's usually one side or the other, and usually the big toe, but for me it was my left ankle)
Out of no where my ankle swelled and got so painful i couldn't even walk on it. I had no friggin clue what happened. It felt just like a sprain but i was clueless to what caused it. After a week of not being able to walk i went to the ER and got an x ray and they said i must have just sprained it. although, you sort of remember when you sprain something. I dealt with problems in this ankle for a good 6 months afterwards.

Swollen or inflamed veins.
Headaches
Pressure in the head
These are just a few for everyone to consider, because not many people seem to no the actual symptoms of high redbloodcell count. RBC or Hemoglobin don't have to both be high for polycythemia to be diagnosed. It can actually be one or the other.

Also, red blood cells run their course for like 110 days.

Yes I am diagnosed as polycythemia. I get chest pain, joint pain ankles, big toe cramps feels like it needs to crack, pain from big toe to tendon thru arch of foot to heal. Gout symptoms. Pressure in head, chest pain breathing especially laying on back, very irritable and pressure in my whole body. I get this when around 18.5 hemoglobin on up.
I am getting dressed in second and going to blood bank do phlebotomy. Been 5 weeks today last time I think it was 16.7 been going every 5 weeks for right now. Need to lower it before trt bloodwork dr wants it at 14.5. Told me it's dangerous if I were to let it be high and dehydrated or be too weak or sick to get it done. I have went up 3.5 points in a month several times. Alson get tendonitous when it stays top high too long.

Just did phlebotomy my # was 17.3 with pin prick and tested. hemoglobin 17.3 g/dl and hemocrit 51%. In one room at blood bank tester only shows hemoglobin and in other it shows both. My example for cycle is this 6-4-16 hemo 14 didn't draw. 6-24-16 hemo15.6 drew started cycle or blast 8-6-16 hemo 16.7 Drew 9-10-16 hemo 18.5 Drew 10-8-16 hemo 16.9 Drew 11-12-16 hemo 17.3 Drew.
First I was on deca 300 wk Test around 600-750 from July to Sept 10 approx. Then 350 sust 150 tren e for 6 weeks then finally for past 2 weeks or so tren a 65 every 36 hours with test a 50
With trt dose of around 150 test wk. If I can figure out posting photos I would post my total trends for past 18 months to show. Will just maybe write a thread showing it. It stays climbing on trt dose but can manage and keep down once down every 6 weeks. But on blast it stays higher and needs to be managed closer. I will come every 3 weeks till I knock under 14.

After 3 straight blood donations with the Red Cross where my hemoglobin was 19, the Red Cross decided to permanently ban me. Even though their limit is 20 on hemoglobin. There are no other places to donate blood around where I live. So now I am limited to a half an aspirin a day. Aspirin is very effective at stopping blood clotting. It is almost as effective as the strong anti-coagulent drug warfarin. I am sure this high hemoglobin level is caused by years of nandrolone use. According to research, nandrolone was the most effective drug in raising RBC, hemo.,and hematocrit.

The Red Cross is a self serving organization. Their main goal is maintaining a perfectly clean image and they are not interested in helping anyone with a medical problem. If you go in and say you are donating blood for any reason other than your civic duty they will ban you.

If u have a Dr order for secondary polycythemia red Cross and United both give u phlebotomy as needed as order states. Red Cross will not do double red blood with therapeutic phlebotomy but United will for $40. With order it's up to u where u go. At your red Cross there should be a sign that reads therapeutic phlebotomy's 8:00-3:00 Monday-Fri. Where I go they still do it if they not busy even on Saturday. Red Cross does do it for people therapeutic and I even have signed paperwork that trt therapy they can take under iron ( hemo) limit because of stimulation and they provide free of charge and use by spinning blood. What they don't do is accept blood from anyone who doesn't meet the criteria. Example injecting anything without a prescription. Etc.

I also take a baby asprin a day. And red Cross is always short of blood. That is one of reasons they spin blood for trt guys to use what they can. If u have a condition your Dr if he knows what he is doing can get u order to donate as needed. If u were banned they obviously flagged u as suspicious.

If u do a simple Google search of therapeutic phlebotomy at Red Cross information will be available. Please be careful what u post on opinions that are not facts when it can discourage someone from getting medical attention instead of help. Don't take this offensive but we cannot speak for Red Cross and your statement is wrong.
