Going over some good snack ideas

So, i'm learning my snacks need to be low on the glycemic index and/or high in protein. I've been munching on almond but they are getting old. I love them but it's possible to have too many almonds. I looked up some low glycemic index foods:

Low-fat yogurt
Peanuts
Broccoli
Green beans
Lettuce
soy beans

What do you guys think about Collard Greens?

I would assume almost any veggie would be a good snack.

What high protein snacks do you guys eat that would be quick and easy for a desk jocky?

Most veggies will be good to go.

Tuna out the can, and peanut butter are both pretty easy foods to snack on that have high protien.

Beef Jerky is one of my faves. Nature valley granola bars are awesome. I love apples myself and you know what they say about them. On the jerky you get great protein content but also high sodium so watch that.

I dont eat red meat and pork.

tuna out of the can always freaked me out. fish that stays safe without being in a fridge seems like it would be bad for you (i do love tuna though). Peanut butter and apples ok? I dont wanna gain fat. Looking to drop the fat and pack on the muscle

As strange as this sounds you have to eat some fat to lose fat. I guarantee you others will agree. Peanut butter and apples as long as you don't go nuts are great in my opinion. I don't know your metabolism but I am on medication for my thyroid and mine sucks but I still eat both of those. So is the red meat just a personal decision or did you work in a grocery store in the meat market? That sounds funny but I know people who won't eat it for that reason. I can't eat tuna myself. I just can't get past the smell. I have tried even the good stuff in the pouches and just can not do it.

lol, I wont eat at the pizza place on my company's property cause I pass through their kitchen all the time. Once you see the kitchen you aint wanting to eat there!

I believe it. It is amazing how "red" a dark greenish sirloin turns when you mix it half and half with fresh ground beef. I have seen it many times. I use to have the hook up when I worked at the grocery store. The market manager would sell me any steak you can think of for a buck a pound. I got a 1.5 pound porterhouse for a buck fifty. Miss those days protein isn't cheap in whole food form when you don't eat eggs or tuna.

i read an article about a guy who cooks up venesin (i cant spell at all) and has that twice a day for a snack. . .

myself i got for penut butter
unsalted peanuts
tuna tuna tuna lol
also I like to make hard boiled eggs and just eat the whites, maybe one yolk out of 5 eggs

Wow, that sounds awesome.

Here is something:

No Guilt Protein Bar

Ingredients: 8oz fat free cream cheese: 6 scoops Chocolate protein powder;3 cups dry oatmeal; 1/2 cup splenda; Dash of cinnamon

Directions: 1. Combine splenda, cream cheese, protein powder, and cinnamon in a bowl. 2. Mix this with an electric mixer on high until it is smooth; 3. Now add the oats and mix with the mixer until you have a fairly homogenous mixture;4. If it is too thick add a 1/4 cup of milk; 5. Next spray an 8 x 8 pan with PAM; 6. Spread the mixture in the pan; 7. Now sprinkle some additional splenda on top; 8. Place in the fridge for 3 hours

I have some more recipes that are a lot tastier and some are no-bake and some are bake. If anyone is interested, I'll print some more later. I'm tired right now from work.

BTW This recipe is from Anthony Ricciuto out of a Powerlifting USA magazine. (just wanna give credit where credit is due).

Love natural peanut butter myself...I wonder if they still sell power butter? it was peanut butter with flax and extra protien.

They do sell some peanut butter that has omega 3s added and flax seed oil. It tastes like crap though and I love peanut butter. I can't remember the name.

Flax kills the deal for me......taste like crap I get my oils in gel caps. Back in the day I would chug flax but im getting older and I dont deprive myself of a good thing......Pass the jiffy!

depends if you want to gain or lean out. Lettuce for example is a negative caloric food.
It takes more calories to digest then you comsume. Not a good muscle builder but
probably good in the fiber dept. Correct on the fats, just try to use the good fats not
the saturated. What about hardboiled eggs for protien?

Every once and a while I will get celery and put peanut butter on it, that's not too bad. Try refrigerating the tuna, maybe put a little hot sauce or mustard or a tiny amount of miracle whip on so its not too dry. Also at places like trader joes or haris teeter you can get raw mixed nuts and raw mixed nuts with dried fruit and I believe that they are unsalted. One last thing, at the grocery store they sell the perdue chicken breast that come single wrapped with six to a pack. Cook up a couple of those and you got almost 60g of protein, and they are pretty tasty too.
