Vitamin E is supposed to help with scars. I could be wrong, but I don't think a topical treatment, such as Retin-A, would be any good at this point... I'm pretty sure those types of meds are only useful when you're trying to clear up inflamed acne.
As a skincare student, I'd say that your best bet would be to go to a medical spa or plastic surgeon's office... there, an esthetician or medical professional can perform a medical-grade chemical peel or microdermabrasion or laser treatment of some kind (depending on the severity). That's probably the only way you will get the scars to appear less noticable.
It may require several treatments and it could be pricey, but you get what you pay for, so it might be worth it!
