Safety Squat Bar?

Has anyone ever used one of these safety squat bars? They are a u shaped bar with bars that come out forward also. I have never used one, but wondered what everyone thought about them.

they actualy have one at a gym near my house

its old school.... so no companies make them anymore, gotta go to a old hard core gym to find one of those bad boys

not entirely sure if this is what hes talking about but its normally called a cambered bar and they are awesome for many exercises.

Damn, that would actually be nice... no more strain/stress on my shoulders while trying to hold my arms up to stabilize the bar.

Yup thats a great thing man, i cant do heavy back squats anymore, after 2 sureries on my right shoulder i dont have the mobility to hold the bar behind my neck anymore. Sucks ass.

Oh ok i think OP is talking more along the lines of this which would be awesome too.

I could do with just a good camber bar it would serve the same purpose for squats but i use it for alot of other exercises as well. Trap shrugs with the camber bar under a bench are amazing. You dont have to worry about the bar hitting the bench so you can shrug all the way up while seated and holy fuck they make your traps grow.

Good point!!

Fast forward to 50 seconds and you'll finally understand what highside was talking about

I waited for 50 seconds thinking something good was going to be on there and just a song. I was hoping for something better....

Yeah I said "fast forward" not "wait"

And Men with Hats are well worth the wait anyways

That is the exact bar I am talking about. It had the handles pointing forward. I saw a guy using one the other day and had some serious weight on it. He was not touching the bar. It just kind of balanced on his shoulders. He was even kind of holding onto the front of the power rack in case he could not make it up, I guess he was going to kind of spot himself. I am going to buy one and try it. It seems like it would take some stress off your back. I have a long upper body and tend to lean forward too much and it kills my lower back.

I found some links to the bar. The guy on the right side of this add is doing exactly what I saw someone doing, but it looks like this guy actually has some type of handles to grab on the power rack.

I also saw this video. I have never seen this before. Why do they have chains on the ends of the squat bar. I guess it is to make it lighter as you go down and heavier as you go back up.

Yup lots of Power lifters use big chains, helps break through sticking points and just make you strong as shit. Every inch you go up it gets progressively heavier. Bands are also widely used in the same manner.
