Pulled deads today...

I was just going to work up to a 1RM to see roughly where I was at, well I did that and then went a little past that. I ended up only getting 455 for 1 rep, I didn't get any higher than that, but I still was feeling good so I decided to drop the weight and do reps which is something I never do on deadlifts. I dropped it down to 405 and did 6 reps then 365 for 8 and 315 for 10 so I know I'm going to be tore up tomorrow.

Do you guys do deads for reps (high) or just do up to like 5 reps? I feel that if I do too many reps in a set I lose form and that kinda defeats the purpose at that point.

I only do floor deads or deficet deads which is where I'll stand on a board so that my feet are elevated from the floor and I've gotta pull it farther

I'm trying to get back into doing deads myself. Did floor deads and rack deads this week, and I can definitely feel it.

I wish my gym had a rack where I could do it from mid shin, but stll your deads for your weight are always really impressive. I try to do 8-10 reps on each set

I do them in a rack from mid shin level. It's the only way I can ensure that my back gets 100% of it and I can keep my form much tighter. The problem is I can use so much weight and then I get excited and do more weight which makes my sciatica (sp?) flare up bad and I have to go to the therapist and have them do their thing to get me back to normal. Got up to 585 for 10 last time. Then I fell over. Sounds funny, but it wasn't at the time.

Well as a strongman I can tell you a distinct advantage if it is strength you are looking for...Find the weakness in your pull..ie when you get relatively heavy, where are you struggling the most?? Identify that area.
Is it your pull, is it mid shin, or is it locking it out...

If it is the pull from the floor, do deficit deadlifts, this means standing on a plate or platform so that you have to stretch even more...Go lighter and continually strengthen this area, this will help...

If it is mid shin, it might be that you need more speed off the lift, do speed reps, ie lower the weight and work on explosion...

If you are having trouble locking the weight out, this is what rack pulls are for....

Also, use Chain training, i.e place chains on the ends of each side of the barbell...as you lift the weights, the chain will also lift up causing you to lift more weight the higher you go...this or band training will help you get your deadlifts to a higher strength level if you have plateaued.

Hope this helps :)

My raw dead is pretty good for my weight, when I put powerlifting briefs on it's the lockout that hinders me. This is why I do a lot of heavy rack pulls, but I think my biggest weakness is that with heavier weights I can't seem to throw my hips like I should. I also think that my hams have a lot to do with this, I think if there's any weak bodypart when it comes to deads it's definitely in my hams so I've been killing them.

I've always had a good deadlift. I need to do a lot more box squats to get my deadlift up too. I know I can pull 500 raw if I stay focused on it. That'd be over 3 times my body weight so I would be very happy with that.
