For the PT's, what certifications do you have?

I have been affliated with several ones, it seems that ACE is the standard (which I never have had) then again it looks like ACE is yr run of the mill, "Oh Mrs Smith lets check yr heart rate" BS that any pencil neck can take. Thing is in all my yrs of this NOBODY has ever asked to see my creditenials, I guess the way I look is proof enough.

What you guys think? My current one runs out soon and ACE trained looks good on the web site I guess, but I like this one better:

http://www.westside-barbell.com/

Its $500 for the course

Great question. Look forward to some more responses, I have been out of the game for a long time. I had ACE and a more local one I believe from a small specialty school near me. I had the books for ISSA but never followed through with that one.

I'm interested In knowing as well since I may want to get back into it in a year or so.

What did you think of the ACE? What level did you have? It just looks so generic
the linky I provided looks cool but in my small market, not many hard training athletes that could benefit BUT the principles and protocols in the West Side could be had by even common folks

my wife and I are ISSA certified, which is and was the standard around here in New Jersey, though I never worked for a gym , but i owned my own Personal training biz, and i hated it! When people your training walk in eating candy bars, or ask me if its ok to eat garbage on training days, i just throw my hands in the air and said fuck it, lol,

People are and have always been naturally drawn to me, and i figured i would take advantage of this by opening my own PT biz, but i quickly found out that I hate most human beings, and the all disgust me, even the ones in shape! So it didn't last long, Plus back then here in New Jersey guys were getting rich doing this personal training, and i mean rich! They worked their balls off around the clock, but they made boat loads of money! So i wanted in, but i quickly found my business cards would disappear, from the front desk, and other trainers greasing the palms of the front desk workers for biz and to toss my cards in in trash, it was dog eat dog, and i didn't need the money that bad, lol. Just wasn't worth the head aches here!

I bought the ACE package years ago. I studied for a month straight and was no where near being ready for the test. I was doing it mostly for fun and my own gratification. I didn't finish it. 600$ wasted. Oh well. I though it would be a little easier. It's insane how much stuff you have to know!

How much of the info required from ACE is actually pratical? Or is biology, things that you'd almost never ever come across when training the rank and file member? My IFPT cert was a lot of stuff like that, you have to remember it for testing purposes but soon after, all is forgotten.

That was he thing. 95% of the info I would never use. Kinesthesiology, and the different muscles, bones, and so much more. Of course most of us know basic muscle groups but it ridiculous to memorize 300 or how ever many there are. The science knowledge was that of getting a degree! You would have to study the stuff for six months every day to pass that test. At least it would of taken me that long.

Oh god, Westside. .. I'm about sick and tired of hearing about doing things Westside and that if you don't do it you're an idiot. Louis Simmons is a good coach sure but a gram of androl everyday will make anyone strong. It's borderline crossfit the way people are with "Westside".

You might not hate everyone if you didn't live in Jersey. ;)

So you dont think that would be a wise investment? I know John Pirrallo in Cinncinati, has a certification program where you have to be able to perform the workout including a 100 rep belt squat, actaully because his may more practical since its diet related, meaning more suitable for todays member (wimps that they are)

Many yrs ago, PT was some great ancillary income, now with the recession, its barly worth doing. Theres another PT in town and he started a window washing biz to make ends meet. Most people seem like they will NOT lose weight or whatever, then swear they eat exactly what you told them (they didnt) and ghet pissed if they dont lose. its a tough biz

lmao, you know bro, you might be onto something there, though i am sure i would still hate people from other states, but maybe i would hate them just a little bit less lol

yeah bro your 100% right i would imagine, as back then people had disposable income! Now days after the recession and everyones home/mortgage being under water including mine, lol, people probably aren't able to pay for trainers like they use to!

Sorry i missed the response and the rest of the thread. Honestly a lot of it is not too practical, but most is good to know. If you have a health/fitness background a lot of it will be familiar, I would certainly recommend the practice test, and getting some of their study aids as well. This was a long time ago, but I know a lot of answers on certifications are applicable for that certification so sometimes the answers can be a little different, especially when it comes to diet etc and recommended things, like protein per day etc.

What is that exactly
Parillo is a supplement company that also offers trainers certs as you can see. Although they are not nationally reconized, may PT's take thier course just for the vast knowledge that John offers. He has a training faclity in Cinncinati, also has complete product line and is hard core as hell, right up my alley. I'd rather spend the $400 w/him, despite the lack of being accredited with the mainstream than some boring, BS cert that entitles you to count reps for Mrs Smith and tell her shes doing great

lol, yeah i guess I'm with ya, but for the younger guys looking for a job they'll need the accredited program certs,

I don't know, my wife took my test for me and wrote my thesis lol, she did hers and mine lol, she said it was pretty in depth and a solid program , and we only got it years ago cause it was accredited and recognized well in the gyms we worked out at and i trained people at,
