Joe Rogan finds himself in hot water.
Joe Rogan is under fire after past racial comments have surfaced. The popular podcaster is being brought to task for using the N-Word in past episodes of his podcast. As a result Spotify has removed dozens of episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast from their service.
It appears that the past can catch up to each and every one of us. In the case of comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan, the past has come roaring back and at the most inopportune time. Rogan’s controversial opinions on the global health issue that’s plagued the world for over two years now has seen him become public enemy number one. Now these past comments of Rogan have added fuel to the fire for the movement to cancel the comedian.
Attempt at Atonement
Such a controversy isn’t one that Joe Rogan can ignore. As such it appears that the comedian has decided to address the issue on his own terms. Rather than put out a written statement through a publicist or mouthpiece, Rogan decided to make a video touching on his past.
There’s been a lot of shit from the old episodes of the podcast that I wish I hadn’t said, or had said differently. This is my take on the worst of it.
While he may be apologetic and filled with regret, it doesn’t change the fact that he said what he said. Unfortunately many who have an unchecked ego, power, and influence beyond belief can find themselves power tripping. Joe Rogan does appear sincere in his apology, but his past comments show a deep level of arrogance and ignorance on the subject of race in this country. What is a bright spot however is that Rogan acknowledged this point as well.
Does all this mean that Joe Rogan should be canceled? That’s up to public opinion and the market to decide. But it is a lesson for anyone who believes that what they’ve done in the past won’t have an effect on their present standing.
Joe Rogan may not be a racist, but his use of controversial language was clearly irresponsible. While this video statement is a decent first step, he’ll have to continue to prove himself with his actions moving forward.
What do you think of Joe Rogan and this recent controversy?
