I'm trying my hardest to do neither. Let me explain. I'm all about simplification so I'm trying to find a diet that is year round for me. I've come to the conclusion that calories are complete bull shit. The biggest mistake in the food industry is that there are calories listed on the packaging of foods. Some fats actually only give you 7g of calories of energy where as some give you 11g or 12g. Nobody tells you this. The same is true of protein and carbs. I'd be willing to be that it varies from person to person too although nobody has proven this yet. I have been eating at least 5k calories per day -no supplements- and less than 100g of carbs ed and I'm leaner than I was when I did an "industry standard" cut this summer on gear mind you with only 1800 calories with low fat, moderate carbs, and high protein (well as high as you can go with 1800 calories LOL). If I didn't get so freaking constipated on keto, I would probably have carbs only once every 5 days.
So my question is why can't you get bigger and leaner or stay the same year round while getting bigger and stronger. We all know you have to be in a surplus of calories to have significant growth. So I want to have my cake and eat it too so that's exactly what I plan to do. Fuck counting calories. Fuck macros. What the hell is a macro anyway? Everyone IK who counts their MACROS has MICRO muscles and MICRO Strength. Seriously, you think the biggest mofo in the gym thought about how many reeces puffs he could eat before he came to the gym so he didn't spill over his allotted calories for the day? Hell no! The only thoughts he had were stuff like this: "do I need these carbs to lift heavy?" ; "is this a good time to eat carbs?" ; "could I get by with just protein/fat?" ; what supplements should I take with it like igf, GDA's, ect... with these carbs to get back to keto faster?"
One more thing that is ass backwards to me... why would you eat complex carbs if you are trying to lose fat and build muscle. Greater insluin spike = more muscle. Faster the carb (ie more sugary/ higher GI) = the faster your blood sugar is low again. If you eat complex carbs, you get less of an insulin spike and have the carbs in your system longer preventing you from losing fat even after you don't need to use the carbs anymore (ie after training). I say eat nothing but sugary carbs, unless you are carbing up the night before a training session or having a cheat meal. Now if you eat carbs a lot like all day then you would probably get fat doing this, but if you have a low carb diet like me then there is no benefit to the "clean carbs."
So I'm going to eat based totally on feel (for me that's going keto occasionally and high fat moderate protein), train like an animal, take the supplements that work for me, and if I want to get peeled ECA 3x ed and yohimbine with a keto diet for 3 weeks with water manipulation prior to whatever I'm getting peeled for and boom I'm there.
With this method, I won't ever think about eating and can concentrate on more enjoyable things. Essentially, I'm eating for the next 12 hours. If I'm squatting in 12 hours more carbs and possibly a cheat meal, if not bacon and eggs and vegetables. So simple.
