Well I know there is a huge gap of political beliefs here, but recently watched watched "Inequality for all" and it was really good.
I have in my own research compared the following things, cost of something, compared to what minimum wage is and it's pretty crazy.
1950's average home compared than to now
1960's Mustang V8 compared to todays Mustang GT
1970's College credit hour compared to now

If you don't belief things are much harder now, do some research like this, it's amazing, yet depressing.
College you have to work 1.5 to 2 times more for the same education (credit hour wise) from early to late 70's
1966 Mustang V8 $3213.00 Minimum wage $1.25 = 2570 hours worked
2014 Mustang GT $31035 Minimum wage $7.25 = 4281 Hours worked
which means you need to earn another 1711 hours (this is if you put every penny earned to the cars in this equation)

Crazy stuff, but the documetary brings to light some really good points. (not these, this was my own research)
Watch it if you have a chance and somewhat of an open mind.

College is basically useless if it isnt with the courses that you cannot learn by yourself for example, medicine, - but most courses are useless basically

While this is true to a certain extent, you're more likely to both find a job faster and make more money if you have a degree.

tap'n

In the 70s there were many many more industrial jobs. They have been replaced with service jobs, which pay a lot less. I watched that movie a while back. It was narrated/hosted by Robert Reich the Obama labor secretary. Obama canned him. I don't remember why. Reich is right on a lot of points but he is pretty much a very left of center liberal.

Its not because things are "harder" your example is because the currency has been destroyed by the Federal Reserve.

I find it so hard to watch any liberal driven garbage! It may well be good, and true information, but they always gotta go that extra little bit and turn me off!

I got to thinking about this a bit. I can prove to you its not that you have to work harder, that its the currency thats been destroyed.

I'm going to use Approximates in my math so bare with me. In 1963 you could feed your family with a dollar. You can still feed your family with a dollar, it just needs to be a Silver Dollar made in 1963. That Silver dollar is worth about $17.50. If you're frugal enough you can feed your family for a couple days at least for that amount of money.

The fact that the Fiat Currency we have used has been destroyed since taken off the Gold Standard is the real reason people have to work harder to do the same thing. Raising the minimum wage will just make things worse. If anything the minimum wage needs to be done away with. Prices of labor will drop along with the price of products in the market place.

Despite the cause, it's harder, my point is it is much harder for us now to buy anything

Like I said if you have an open mind watch it. So many people now are so fast to call people communists and the like, it's a ridiculous claim 90% of the time.

Harder is no the word I'd use. I'd use "longer"... Though I get your point. People want to place blame on Capitalism and the Free Market when its Govt and Govt ONLY that is to blame.

Like always I couldn't disagree with you anymore. Maybe we should just have slaves...... The businesses are supposed to be able to support people so they can spend money, people spending money is a good thing. The fading middle class which is much closer to lower class now purchases 70% of sold items in the US. In your scenario there would be more crime, more people living off the government, people not purchasing anything other than what they absolutely need to survive. If there is no minimum wage, the wages will drop. I really hope you are wealthy with these opinions. You are not taking into account the way the cycle works. People that are rich primarily get their money out of the country in various different ways, we need the money here. 10 rich people and 1 billion poor people do not make up a good economy. You have your right to your opinion, I respect that but I almost was certain I'd disagree with your view.

Honestly my point was it is harder to get something now, I wasn't placing blame. You stated longer, longer is harder bro, in every working situation... If you have to run 5 minutes to get to the store it may not be that bad, if you have to run 20 minutes it's more difficult, yes "longer" but it's more difficult. If an AS degree takes 2 years to get it may be hard, but if the same degree required 5 years, yeah it's longer and guess what, more difficult. Longer to attain a goal, the same goal it in fact harder.

The facts you disagree with me ONLY shows how clueless you are when it comes to economics. People spending money is not a good thing. People being able to SAVE money is a good thing. Spending is not good, credit is not good. Saving so you no longer have to work is good. Having to work pay check to paycheck your entire life is the direct result of the destruction of the currency, over taxation, over regulation. The govt is destroying the middle class with wreckless monetary policy and over taxation and over regulation.

Since you're such a smart guy what should the minimum wage be? How bout we make it $50 an hour so everyone can spend money like its going out of style. All raising the minimum wage does is raise the cost of the products in the market place. The minimum wage was NOT meant to support a family but the govt has destroyed things and made things so bad that these are some of the ONLY jobs out there for people to get.

I also like how you ignored my Silver money example. If people were still paid in real currency like Silver we'd not be having this conversation and the country would not be 150 trillion make believe dollars in Debt.

I cant even be civil with you because you always flip shit with jackassery. THE ENTIRE FUCKING POINT OF WHAT THE FUCK I WROTE IS TO ILLUSTRATE THAT YES IN FACT COST OF PRODUCTS HAS GONE UP SIGNIFICANTLY PAST COST OF LIVING RAISES. To say spending is bad shows that you're a fucking retard. If no one spent money every lawn business, restaurant, mall, car dealer ship, farms, etc would be out of business. Your "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mind set is out dated and doesn't work. Don't be ridiculous with 50 dollars per hour. The equivalent would put it somewhere around 10 dollars per hour now, not 50, not 40, not 30, not 20. Many middle class jobs go right along with min wage increases as well, so yeah people shouldn't pray to be making minimum wage, but my 20 dollars an hour I made 6 years ago, and the 20 an hour I make today due to increases in every cost and none to my pay directly means I make less money every year for the past 6. I'm not getting tugged into the reason as to why it's like this, the fact stands, it IS LIKE THIS. Fuck man, I feel bad for any girlfriend or wife you have had or have. I bet you can argue why something should be cooked on the left stove burner instead of the right, even though they are the same size, bc then you'd be right lol.

********Also note I did NOT say anywhere don't save. I bought my 1st drum set In 4th grade from money I earned, and saved. By myself.

Also going back to your original post. You cannot just compare the cost of a 1966 Mustang GT and one today. EVERYTHING about todays product is superior to the 60's stang. From ABS, Aluminum Block, Airbags, Fuel Injection even down to the wheels tires and paint used. EVERYTHING is better.

Same goes with a house. A shitty poor build quality inefficient home is a sub par product to a house built today like here in Florida that is Super energy efficient and can withstand 150+ MPH winds. Of course they are more expensive to buy today. They are BETTER products.

For your example to mean anything you must compare EXCACT same products like a gallon of gas or a loaf of bread. What does it cost to produce a standard 2x4? These are better examples to compare the true cost of living in todays market place. I think you'll see that things have gone up and are more expansive to buy using Fiat Dollars. But in real currency, like gold and silver the true cost of living has gone down. This is because of technology and better manufacturing and transportation.

Well that's bc Gold and Silver aren't as abundant so that would render different results as well. Technology per 1966 compared to what the Mustang Owner received, and Tech per 2014 and what the mustang owner is getting is a comparable thing, it would also be comparable in standard of living as well. The houses in the 50's had some shitty aspects, however I don't know about by you, but by me all these 50's homes are still standing beach side bro. I don't want one because I'm not a fan of lead pipes and asbestos walls. They still are up and people really (for some reason) want them. I agree with you a 2x4 or gallon of gas is a great comparison, even better, but I was going off the top three things (In my eyes) that cause debt: Education, Transportation, Housing. I was listing a fact and not wanting to get into an argument.
