betadine vs alcohol

OK I'm reading a lot of conflicting information here. There are medical sites that claim that by using alcohol to prep the injection area, it WILL NOT KILL OF ALL THE STAPH AND MRSA. They are saying that a person is better off washing with soap (antibacteria) and water-then using betadine with sterile pads.

Then I'll find another website that says as long as you are using the 90% alcohol it will do the trick... gotta love the misinformation on the net.

Thoughts and opinions?

well when ever im getting a blood test the Drs are always only using an alcohol wipe. i dont see any problem with only using alco wipes if Drs use them all day long

they use betadine more for surgery, every IV is started with an alch prep, however when someone gets a myelogram and they go into the spinal canal with contrast they use betadine, but once again thats far more than just IM level. In your case of what happened, if I was you I would shower with antibacterial body wash, or just put anti bac liquid soap in there and when you are done in the shower, before you shut the water off wash the inj spot with the anti-b soap, rinse it off let that area air dry, than hit it with a alch prep air dry again than inject

yeah that's kinda what I'm thinking Metal...
been using alcohol for IM since I started (over 10 years ago) and have never had a problem until a month ago...

thanks to Triad, gotta put money before the health of others...
