For real bp help they will probably start you (doctors) on a diuretic like hctz. If that doesn't work they will put you on calcium blockers, beta blockers, or some other things. I have been on norvasc 5mg and it didn't help much. Hctz at 25mgs helped mine some and ziac really worked. I never had really high readings but the flushing of my face at anything over 140 on top would send me into panic attacks. I have anxiety disorder. As far as cholesterol- Im not on anything but I think lipitor is probaly the most common. Eat lots of fruit vegetables and whole grains and that will help somewhat. Cardio will definitely help also. Potassium helps bp, but is possible to get too much also. Watch sodium intake for sure with both.
