In my gym, they have these foam wraps that go around the bar - folks use them for squats so they don't mash their back.
My guess is you could put this around the bar when you do deads. That way, when the bar smashes into your shins, it won't scrape or bruise you.
However I rarely have probelms with this. But only do stiff leg deads when I work out my hams and use dumbells. When I use the barbell, I bend my legs a bit.
