Do any of you guys do decline bench press. I just started to do these again. But never see anyone doing these at the gym at all.. If I'm doing them right they should be hitting the lower peck right ?

Dorian Yates is a huge proponent of declines. He trains guys even today to do them and skip the bench saying they are a much more complete overall chest movement hitting all but the upper chest. The key is to bring the bar to mid chest...remember that the stretch will be extreme so don't get crazy going down in the movement. Take the elbows down to just a little below parallel so as not to tear or pull anything. I do the movement to mid chest and also bring the bar to the lower chest as well hitting mid and lower chest.

Thanks Former... Sounds like I'm doing it right then !!!:bench:

Dnt like decline at all. To hard on the shoulders. Dips and cable fly's work way better in my OP. But everyone is diff.....

I do them almost every chest work out. I use a narrow grip compared to a flat bench to really focus on what needs to be hit.

I think they are easier on my shoulders than dips are. Then again, maybe I just go too deep when doing dips.

I always do them on the SM.. Because it is hard to fine a spotter at my gym that I can trust !!!

There is no doubt they are hard on the shoulders...I am having shoulder issues in the left shoulder again and have been doing db work almost exclusively right now. For some reason they don't seem to stress the shoulder like a barbell...I do prefer the barbell in decline work though.

I don't do them. My gym doesn't even have a decline bench. I'd have to drag ab bench under the smith machine if I wanted to do them.

This wat I have to do.. A little extra work will go a long way Ox.. lol

I hear ya. I just hate using benches under the smith machine. I can never get them centered right.

Well, then I have to adjust three or four times to get the bar hitting in the right spot on my chest. And I don't think they will let me get it set and then bolt it to the floor.

I have a decline utility bench at my gym but its a steep decline. Many yrs ago I had a regular decline bench w/uprights etc and hardly anyone used it. Its not a poplar exercise I'm thinking due to the fact that blood rushes to the head.

But thnks to the OP for reminding me.....think I'll start using it next time chest day comes along
