Hi just wondered if some of the more experienced competitors could give me some advice to help me get that elusive first place in a contest. (I just keep coming second) When I carb deplete I dry out really well but as I carb up I start to hold water under the skin again and to shift this I have to take diuretics which always flatten me out a bit so basically I can come in dry and a bit flat or else full but not totally dry. I have tried lots of carbing up strategies but they have all ended the same way, has anyone else experienced this nightmare?

I have tried aldactone on its own, taraxatone on its own and a combination of the two which worked slightly better. Dosages were 100 mg aldactone from 7 days out and taraxatone used as directed. When I take any diuretics the morning of the show I flatten out. Have never used Lasix as I had heard a few bad reports regarding their safety. What diuretic would you recommend? Carbs definitely make me hold water so I take it I am carb sensitive, how would I get over this? Thanks for the reply.

It is just the way your body is made. Lasix can work but for most it really flattens you out like a pancake. I would suggest Diamox or Dyazide. I have used either and have had good results from them. As far as carbing up , I use sweet potato and all fruit spread to carb up. I really can't use things like cheesecake or pancakes, etc beause I will hold water. I am also assuming that you are reducing your sodium intake?
If not, that could be a problem as well.

Never heard of those diuretics are they available in Europe do you think? I keep sodium in my diet until 48 hours out from the show and then cut it apart from incidental sodium contained in mineral water and the food I am eating which is turkey fillet steak baked potato and porridge. I can get the fat off quite easily which makes dieting relatively easy compared to a lot of the guys I train with but it is so disheartening to not be able to nail the dryness and fullness aspect in the last few days.
