Do you guys focus more on flat or incline bench press? I'm seeing several bodybuilders who seem to place more emphasis on incline these days. I've always focused on flat and done incline secondarily.

Hey Ox. I don't do flat anymore at all but only because I tore my rotator cuff and had surgery last year. Since I switched to all incline movements my upper chest development has been great, also when you have implants I feel there is really no need to flat bench or do decline either, hard to see anything anyways. Far as guys are concerned I still see a lot of guys benching, but flat dbs are great as well. You could always still do your flat and add more incline, dbs or smith machine even.

So, you are saying that if I get implants I can stop worrying about benching? Something to think about...:D

Flat bench gives you thick chest on the other side incline bench gives you wider chest. So it depends on you what you would like to do or what shape you want of your chest.

It seems like I've always had more shoulder problems doing incline rather than flat, but everyone else says that incline reduces the stress on their shoulders.

I like inclining more then flat benching! I know some guys who do incline and decline and say theres no need to for flat, but i think i personaly need flat and couldnt afford to cut it out

I know my upper pecs are one of the lacking parts of my body so I focus on incline and then use flat secondarily if at all in a workout. I think that alot of people put emphasis on increasing the size of their upper pecs which is likely the reason you see this. My gym on the other hand is a bunch of rednecks and I think 90% of the normal man's workout there is flat bench :-P

I have a shoulder problem and can't hardly do incline, or decline, but can still do flat just fine. When I feel I need to concentrate on shape i switch or add in dumbel bench.
