I lift early in the morning around 7 am. I do an intense lift and run for about half a mile to a mile depending on energy level and time. I don't or drink before I work out, other than water.

I want to use the glycogen levels in my muscle tissue for my lift then burn extra calories and fat with the run.

I'm working on building lean mass while losing weight. I was running first but found that was making me tired before I lifted and switched to lifting first. Should I eat before I hit the gym or will this stop my fat loss?

Also, i usually have whole grain oatmeal and protein veggies sausage in the morning. I was out of sausage so I threw about a table spoon and half of peanut butter in it. Opinions on that as a breakfast?

i always have a shake with some ground oats about 45 min before i lift, but you dont want to eat a big breakfast right before because then your body is useing blood to digest the meal. iquids also digest faster than solids so your body will be useing this for energy dureing your workout. i should say this works well for me. now everyone is different so expiriment. got a buddy that has a yogurt and apple right before he lifts for energy and has plenty of energy.

just get a good whey isolate 1/2 hr before htting the gym. If you take a pre workout booster , take the shake 1 hr before then preworkout 1/2 hr later

I'm trying to lose weight too. I was afraid anything before my work out would be used as energy instead of fat tissue.

I understand it won't be stored but will my body use the pre-workout food for energy instead of burning off fat? Thats my concern.

I do the same I lift early in the morning. I drink a low carb shake (20 grams or less) with good fats. Morning is the best time to ingest carbs with little negative affect because insulin sensitivity is at it's highest and most efficient point.

My shake would be under 500 calories when I would use it to lean up. ALA, creatine and fish oil caps gave me great pumps and results because of keeping insulin and nutrient efficient.

Stay away from bad fats.

My PWO shake is protein, glutamine, and dextrose. I have the same thing at night except i replace the dextrose with a slow carb. I take a multivitamin, 2 greet tea extract pills, and CLA with each shake.

The only time i get a bad fat is a little bit in my natural peanut butter.

Did my breakfast sound ok or should I not put peanut butter in my oatmeal like that?

keep it in its a good source of protein.
oats and nattybutter sounds good to me.
i would add some sort of protein and card before u lift, dont u get tired quick?
i cant lift in the morning i need my food before i train.but thats just me

I can lift for about an hour and 15 min and run about a mile without anything in my gut. I have my protein shake right after then eat breakfast about an hour or 2 after that.

listen to your body, it will tell you what you need.

if I tried to workout without eating first, I would be crashing hard 10min into my workout. I always eat a huge meal before I workout, giving it at least an hour to digest. Gives me plenty of energy and great pumps.
