When a diet says 8oz of chicken breast or any other meat, is that precooked or afterwards? Just wondering because I usually cook a whole bag of Tyson chicken breasts and it says there are 10, 4oz servings, after I am done cooking them I end up with 4, 6-7oz servings. so I am confused, anyone know?

not very certain, but i would say that value is b4 cooking...caz once you cook, the meat will shrink and lose some water weight as well...but then again that's my assumption....but i will bump for more input...

I've always used the post cooked weight to determine the size but I'm not sure if that's a universally accepted method.

what kind of diet are you following? my guess would be the nutritional value of a chicken breast would be after it's cooked since you're not going to be eating a raw breast

there she goes again peppering us with links... lol.

it's like I always say, "Give a man a fish - feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish - feed him for a lifetime." Your links are great Angel, maybe we'll all start to realize that all the info we need is out there if we look for themselves...

Great link angelblue, the diabetes sites are great for nutritional info. As for the thread, I tend to use cooked weight then again I don't weigh it I just eat until I am full and if I start to get fat, I cut down on carbs and fat.

Cool, thanks everyone, I also usually use the cooked weight but started thinking the other day when I was reading my chicken bag. I will just keep using post cooked weight, because even if there is a little more protein in it than I think, that can't hurt.

My rule is, I don't worry about that piddly shit! I just buy a 4 pack-chicken, fillets, crab cakes, or pork chops-check to see the weight is above a lb and if it is-its dinner! Meals of mine usually go like that. Friday is my cheat day-I will be able to have a burger or something for dinner and it is usually a 1lb model-with the works-bacon, only a single slice of cheese I prefer. I don't care for fries too much to be honest. I would rather have mashed or home fries.

I hear ya, I used to be like that but My bodyfat was getting to high. About 3-4 years ago I was having 1lb. of ground beef for dinner multiple nights a week with ranch, usually about an hour after having a shake with about 60g of protein. After the ground beef I would usually have a 12 pack. I can't do that shit no more. I used to get real distended, and in general felt like shit. I've been cutting like a bastard for the past 3-4 weeks eating 5-6 meals a day with about 40g protein each meal, low carbs, and my fat is too low, gonna have to make up for that somehow, oh well

a 12 pack?!?!?! and I worry about wether I have 2 or 3 glasses of wine a week!
Looks like you've got it down now bro, keep up the consistency and you'll shed the lb's

I always weigh meat after cooking and carbs before cooking in order to ascertain correct nutritional value. Cooking meats remove the water so give the true weight whereas cooking many carbs will add water, weighing your oats before cooking is the only way to accurately work out how many carbs you are getting as cooking will make it weigh different amounts depending on how much water you add what temperature you cook at and how long you cook for. I only worry about weights of food when dieting though, when not dieting I eat as much as possible

Diet information is always based on cooked weight, not raw so weighing after cooking is the way to go.
