Here's something that was brought up a while back, just thought I'd bring it back for the guys who aren't into doing a bodybuilding show, but are in shape.

When the NPC Board of Governors met in Atlanta, Georgia a new division was announced… “Men’s Physique”. Next year (2011), the NPC will implement the division and we could see the IFBB follow suit in 2012. We’ll have to wait and see on the IFBB front but let’s focus on the NPC for now.

A look at what type of physique could do well in the new division.

Women joked a couple years ago when the bikini division was implemented. Some of the hardcore bodybuilding women asked when a men’s bikini division would be implemented. This new division certainly isn’t a men’s bikini division (thankfully!) but it will bring a number of new physiques to the stage. Many men don’t have the genetics to be professional bodybuilders nor do they aspire to be one. The new division is more a Muscle & Fitness / Men’s Fitness look and one that is sure to attract a following. Men who could do well at this show might have won a local level bodybuilding show but have no chance at a top spot on the National Bodybuilding scene. It’s not a bodybuilding competition, so you won’t see any front double biceps or most muscular poses here.

The NPC recently released the guidelines for the new division, shown below. What do you think ladies, is this something you will pay attention to and look forward to seeing or not so much?

The RULES & GUIDELINES for MEN’S PHYSIQUE:
Men’s Physique Division
Beginning in 2011 a new division for men will be introduced – Men’s Physique. The following are the guidelines/rules.

Judging Criteria:

* Muscularity and Body Condition
Judges will be looking for fit contestants who display proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition. This is not a bodybuilding contest so extreme muscularity should be marked down.

* Stage Presence and Personality
Contestants will be asked to walk in board shorts (shorts must be just above the knee in length and can be one inch below the belly button, no spandex and no logos are permitted on the board shorts however a manufacturer’s logo such as Nike symbol or Billabong are acceptable. Competitors will enter the stage without a shirt and barefoot. No lewd acts are allowed. Example: The moon pose. Judges are looking for the contestant with the best stage presence and poise who can successfully convey his personality to the audience.

COMPETITION JUDGING

Presentation:
* Competitors will walk to the center of the stage alone and perform quarter (1/4) turns with optional pose of hand on hip or hand in pocket, face the judges as directed then proceed to the side of the stage.

Comparison Round:
* The competitors will be brought back out in a group and directed to do quarter turns
* Judges will have the opportunity to compare competitors against each other in quarter turns.
Promoters can choose to have one class or two. For contests with two classes:
* Up to including 5’8”
* Over 5’8”

National level contests do not permit competitors to crossover into Bodybuilding. All other competitions are permitted to have crossovers at the discretion of the promoter with district chairperson’s approval.

Who Qualifies for National Level Men’s Physique Competitions:
Competitors that place in the top five (5) in each class at national qualifying contests will have a one year qualification for national level events.
Note: For 2011 a place in the top five (5) of any Men’s Physique contest will qualify you for national level contests.

QUALIFYING FOR IFBB PROFESSIONAL STATUS:
* NPC JUNIOR USA CHAMPIONSHIPS – Top 2 placers in the overall comparison earn IFBB Pro Card
* NPC JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – Top 4 placers in the overall comparison earn IFBB Pro Card
* TEAM UNIVERSE – Height class winners earn IFBB Pro Card
* NPC USA CHAMPIONSHIPS – Height class winners earn IFBB Pro Card
* IFBB NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS – Top 2 placers in the overall comparison earn IFBB Pro Card
* NPC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – Height class winners earn IFBB Pro Card

They are giving out pro cards for men's physique this year, so it will def be in the IFBB. Like bikini, there probably won't be any pro men's physique shows until next year after the pro lineup has been established. Same with women's physique!

Yea, they've already said that there won't be any IFBB shows until 2012.

too bad i dnt have that slim, slender, model physquie :-(

I don't personally like this, but again for people that are hardgainers, but still look good, this could be a good thing. I mean I didn't think the bikini division would be as much of a success as it has been so whatever brings people to the fitness industry can be good for us all in reality.

Put some trunks on them and it looks like a local bodybuilding show. Dont think it will have a big enough following to keep going - other
then with the competitors themselvs.

As long as the NPC is making money from entrants, they'll probably keep it around

I like the idea... I mean i don't think i'll ever wanna do a bodybuilding show, but I got some swagger and i'm a fun guy so I'm sure If I got in a good shape and portrayed that on stage it would be fun. Just being honest but it only helps bodybuilding.
I support it.

just have to deal with it. Its here, and just going to make shows longer. oh well, what do you do?

Not much you can do except deal with it. The NPC is the only federation that is worth a damn so you don't have much choice if you're a serious bodybuilder

It will bring more interest from the women. Women are just not into bodybuilders, but they will love these guys.

Not too crazy about it but there are a lot of people out there that would like to look like that and can better relate to that shape then a 300 pound body builder. So maybe it would bring more money and people to the sport, I'm just not sure. But what makes it gay as fuck is the long ass board shorts. Since when did legs not become part of a physquie. They should atleast have to wear the tight BB shorts from the 70's.

I think it'll be much like a male version of the bikini division. Hopefully it'll bring more woman to shows. That's always a plus for competitors. I guess only time will tell for sure though
