Government Shutdown! Will it happen and do you care?

Here are the five things to know about the pending shutdown for Monday, Sept. 30:


The state of play: The new fiscal year starts Tuesday, Oct. 1, so a bill to fund the government must be passed by both chambers in Congress and signed by Obama by midnight tonight.


Who's got the ball? The Senate, because the House passed a spending bill early Sunday that would also delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act for one year. The House also voted to repeal a 2.3% tax on medical devices to help pay for the health care law. Both policy provisions are non-starters for the Democratic majority in the Senate and the White House — so expect the Senate to send the spending bill back to the House without those items. The Senate convenes at 2 p.m. ET.


What about the House? The lawmakers will gavel into session at 10 a.m. ET, but their legislative agenda is unclear. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., says votes could start as early as 11 a.m. ET depending on any Senate action.


Where is Obama? He's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then the Cabinet.So far, the president hasn't been negotiating with Congress to resolve the budget impasse. As for the health care law, the state-run health exchanges to help people buy insurance are set to begin Tuesday.


Will I feel the shutdown? Yes and no. Social Security recipients will receive benefits, mail service will continue and taxes will still be collected. But if you wanted to visit a national park, historic site or a Smithsonian museum, those gates and doors will shut Tuesday without funding.

I agree, and this health care bill is bullshite, he's plain bold face lying when telling people it's not going to effect their care, it is, their paying for this bill by cutting the elderly benefits, and cutting the payouts to hospitals, this means your mom dad, grandma grandpa needs a new knee? Sorry nope, new hip, nope. Less RN's on staff, less Physical Therapy. Hospitals are going to be praised for spending the least amount of money.... Even though it's a proven FACT, by medical research that your chances of surviving a major illness drastically goes down if you go to a lower spending hospital. And why as a surgeon, would you want to do a 3-4 hour hip replacement surgery if your getting paid next to nothing!!! This is the most idiotic thing this country has ever done, but this is what you get when you elect a Socialist president, share the wealth, by taking from those who've worked hard and give to those that don't work at all... So we can all be Equal.

It should have been shut down 5 years ago when the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress failed to pass a budget. We've not had a budget in close to 5 years.

The stupid thing is the memorial is funded by outside sources and not DOI. Now that was civil disobedience, you think any of those old vets were afraid of a park ranger? Even the rangers that were interviewed said they are not going to arrest anyone even if ordered. Today the administration and DOI said that there will be arrests made at the next march.

1) it's not treated as a manufacturing company
2) something in between this health care bill and everyone using the ER without paying
3) an urgent care connected to every non-profit hospital ER's
4) laws against insurance companies fucking ppl out of what they pay into
5) less intrusion into HIPAA 6) medicare should be paid back on OUTCOME not pt satisfaction where the questions are literally a 1-10 and anything below a 9 is a zero and the questions are "was your food as hot as you would like it" and "did you go to the bathroom as soon as you wanted to" and "did you like the room decor"

The people who bitched the most about people abusing the hell out of the ER and paying nothing, are the ones bitching the most now that people will need insurance.
It is a give and take, and I am not saying what is in place is the solution, (come Jan) but it was already a sinking ship that no one was fixing.

Also out of curiosity, wouldn't it have been easier and cheaper to just give health insurance to the 30million without it? I think so! I forget what study cited this but they say 30 million are going to wind up uninsured anyhow even with Obama Care , so what's the point!?....?....CONTROL!
