went to the dentist bc I knew I had atleast 1 cavity, ends up I have 3, they only did the cleaning today it cost $166, I need 3 fillings which will cost $526, so to get this resolved its $700, thats about reasonable right? socialized healthcare sounds better every day

But you would have paid over $700 for two months of family coverage on most insurance plans. So, if you avoid any major surgeries or hospitalizations you aren't really paying as much as you think.

Uhh, my insurance is $6 a week, first dentist cleaning has a $50 deductible, second dentist cleaning is free and cavities are covered at 80%. It would take me almost 10 years to pay $700 for my insurance. FWIW.

Dear lord. I'm paying like $360 a month for family coverage through my insurance at work. I hated paying it until I got the bill for my kidney stone a couple of years ago and it was like $30,000 and I only had to pay the $500 deductible.

they jack the rates up so high that they basically force you to buy insurance, and if you don't that's fine...soon or later you'll get sick and then they will charge you out the ass

and if you can't pay they'll just take your house and car-leave you in a card board box

hey look at the bright side of things, at least the drug dealers and crackheads on welfare get free medical...at your tax expense

We need less insurance not more insurance. Areas of medicine where insurance does not cover the cost of the procedure the cost of those procedures has come down due to competition between the Doctors.

I agree that people need some kind of policy for catastrophic things but for the once a year trip to the Dr many people use insurance for its an honest waste of money. What these people could have been doing is putting money in a medical savings account instead of giving it to an insurance company to waste.

Agreed. It's funny how when the economy goes to shit everyone struggles except ins. company's. I pay $160 a month to cover my 5 year old car and I couldn't be less of a risk. I've never had a claim. I've spent over $40,000 on insurance since I started driving. Think if I was able to put that money away and earn interest on it.... As far as health insurance I've made out on that. So in combination it's been pretty beneficial to me. My bicep repair was like 25K.

Good points, Ch3no and Dude. I've never made an auto claim either, so that money has been a complete waste. And Ch3no, you notice how doctors are the one area where no one knows the prices. Anything else that expensive, people would shop around for the best rates, but not with doctors, because no one ever knows what they charge. And they charge through the roof because insurance pays it.

I'm in calif. I'm union. They take out over $13 a hour for insh. If you go with their insurance after you retire, they give you a
cut rate, about $950 a month. If you have kids a compareable plan would be about $1600 out here. What the hell is up with that.
Also gas and electric out here. We went to Georgia couple of years ago during the summer. Friends we stayed with had their central
air conditioner on 24 hrs a day. He said his bill was pretty high. Between 1 and 2 hundred a month. Out here it would be about $1000
That is what my friend (who workes for PG&E and gets a %10 discount) pays when he uses his full time. What is up with the rate
differences. Does it cost more to make electricty in calif.?????? And how come insh. is so different in price?

But people do shop Dr's when Insurance does not cover the procedure. Ie Lasik eye surgery and Plastic Surgery. My wife and I went to 5 different surgeons before we decided on a Dr to do her tits.

I'll give an example of how Insurance rips us all off. My brother got laid off from his job and his cobra expired. Well he had a terrible alergic reaction and went to the ER. They fixed him up and about a month later he got a bill in the mail for over 10K. He freaked out. My mother gave him the idea to mail them $50 and wait for the check to be cashed. Couple weeks later they cashed the check( this sets precedent to accept a payment plan) and then my mother had my brother call the hospital and tell him he was private pay. Well when he did they cut the bill to under 5K. So they made over 5K disappear just because insurance was not paying the bill. This shows me the hospital was going to over bill the insurance company. This goes to show that insurance is not needed and is actually driving up the cost of healthcare because they just pay whatever they get billed and the hospitals know it. So they continue to charge more and more.

The best answer to healthcare is a true free market approach. Get government and insurance companies out of the equation. Let medicine get back to a transaction between the patient and Doctor. Then you will see more people going into medicine to actually help people and you will see true competition between doctors and the cost of healthcare will fall like a blind roofer.

I've heard that too, that they will charge you a lot more if they know you are on insurance. I don't see how that is legal.

In this company anything ran by pharmecutical companies or insurance can do what ever they want, this is nothing new and its bs but its true. They have proven what the mortgages companies did to sink this Country by selling loans they KNEW would default and the same company would bet against themselves and insure it so when it did default they would make more money, and on top of that any employee selling a shark loan that was known it would default would get a bonus per mortgage they sold like that---- Guess what has happened to anyone/everyone involved in that scheme? You got it, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check this out. One of my daughters slamed into a wall and needed 3 stitches. It was sunday night. We had to go the the
emergency. About 3 hours and mabey 5 minutes with the act doctor. The bill was $1300 dollars. My insurance "negoshiated (spell?)"
price was a little over 300. So my insurance was billed 300 but if I didnt have insurance they would have billed me 1300. How
fucked up is that?

yeah for them to cut out this abcess, the total has been now about 40K

this is why they fuck you on the medical prices, so they can scare you bad enough to buy insurance and if you don't, soon or later you will get sick or hurt then they will bill you and if you can't pay, they will take everything you have in your name and leave you and your family on the street.

that's call the American way:nope:

yeah those are the biggest crooks out there, and like you said-NOTHING HAPPENED TO THEM...

politicians, bankers, wall street they are the biggest criminials out there and nothing happens to them

Yeah Id way rather get taxed a little more, have socialized medicine, and not be denied for coverage, or be told they wont pay but X amount, and wouldnt have to worry about being dropped from coverage

Anything the government touches turns to shit. Do you really want them handling your healthcare? Know anyone who uses the VA Hospital? What a mess. My parents have friends in the UK. It takes them months to get in to see a doctor.
