I hate it when people lie about how much they can push

I have a friend I saw today and he tried to tell me he was using 295 on a bench machine, that was only a 30 pounds different than bar benching (whatever!). Not a big deal except for the fact that he couldn't get 135 up 4 times when he worked out with me. He did 3 sets and 3 reps was the most he could get. He also lied to me about working out this morning when I told him I would pay for his golf. I just hate being lied to...PERIOD

I think you see this in more young inexperienced lifters who feel they still have something to prove to the bigger and stronger guys...Sometimes the figures I hear are embarrassing though, like when a 150 pounder with no muscle says they hit 315 on bench and its really more like 205 lol...

well if you count those sissy 2-3" reps. I have seen guys get stuck under when they lower the weight down to the chest.

That's when I tell them I don't care how much weight you lift, and I don't care how much weight I lift. I'm not a weight lifter, I'm a bodybuilder. I use whatever weight I feel the most and get the most out of. If I do a set and I feel I need more weight, then the next set I bump the weight. Whenever anyone asks me how much I can bench, I respond with 135lbs. Which is not lying... I really can bench 135. lol

As far as the outright liars.... that shit is annoying, BUT sometimes the shit is true!! Two days ago I saw a friend of mine that is 19 years old, natural, a middleweight that is literally in contest shape (has won 3 shows in the last 4 weeks and is doing 2 more in the next month) squat 405 with nothing but a belt 12 times!!! This is a 176lb 5'8 kid that's natural, depleted for a show and I know he's natural... his first show was a natural show that he won and as you know they full on test the top 3. I use weights I can use as a gauge. As Dante put it, its 100% accurate way to know that the muscle is getting bigger.

Yeah it doesn't matter what you can lift but be able to back it up! I'm not impressed by hearing how much you can lift but rather show me!

Just call em out. Theyll stop or at least not lie to you! Shit as long as weights existed guys have lied about there bench. Why just the other day I put up 500 for an easy rep I could of done more but......:D

thats the worst bro.. i hate that shit. "dude i pressed 365 for 8" OOOKKK, while your buddy curled half of it for you lol

but for me over the years ive learned its more abut quality in opposed to quanity.

as a bodybuilder i concentrate more on contraction and strict form.. to form and shape my muscles.

this is why i will not spot any newbies in the gym. They tear your arms off trying to spot them then and wont take any advise on dropping the weight and doing it properly. If they wanna start injuring themselves then so be it.. i dont want a part of it.

I am going to tell him I want to check his gym out and put him to the test. He can not do it I assure you. If I could gain size doing 225 10x I would be glad to. My shoulders are shot. This guy is 37, 5'7" and has a 40 inch waist, yet he tells me how I need to train. I think its hilarious. He has not set routine and has no clue how to workout but is a legend in his own mind.
