What's up guys. I need help dropping into ketosis. Is there anything I could use that is readily available other than slin? Will metoformin work? If so I'm not sure if It's legal to procure. I have until 7/11 drop as much bf as possible.

You really need to post more about what you are trying to accomplish, your goals here and what you have in mind for reaching them. Eating nothing but fat will drop you into ketosis faster than anything, but losing muscle may not be among your plans.

Sorry to state the obvious, but I would look to the diet first and drop all your carbs!
Most people need to get below 30g of carbs per day - some less than 20. Atkins recommends staying below 20.

Get some ketostyx to test and see if you are in ketosis or not.

Make sure aren't getting any hidden carbs in sauces, etc. Go for just chicken or tuna for a while...

And make sure you only drink water - no jucies or anything else liquid that has carbs.

I have also heard that taking higher doses of ALA helps you stay in ketosis...

My goals are to drop as much bf as I can by july 12th. I'm eating zero carbs meat only no juice no sugar no sauces, only whey chicken steak cheese and flax. I'm running Clen as well cardio is 5 time per week alternating between moderate intesity and hiit. Weight training is 3days.

What you are doing is fine then. Without a carb-up you'll be in ketosis and won't fall out.

BTW: 3 weeks is longer than I could go without carbs! Good Luck- LA

If you are eating no carbs you will be there soon.

If you want to get into ketosis after a carb up, exercise (cardio) at night w/o eating afterward. Wake the next morning, cardio and lift on an empty stomach w/o a no carb meal afterwards.

The ketostix only show if you are ketouric (ketones in the urine), not necessaryly ketonemic (ketones in the blood), which is what you mean by being in ketosis. There could be little or no ketones in the urine b/c you are drinking a lot of water and they are diluted, or you body is actually oxidizing them for fuel and there are no extras to spill over into the urine.

You might also not be ketotic b/c you are eating too much protein, which can be used to make glucose, making ketogenesis unecessary.l

There is likley nothing magical r.e. the state of ketosis except that iit often reduces appetite, which makes dieting easier. Some like the buzz, too.

Great post homonunculus ...its tuff not to go with the short version...LOL sorry bro..just hate typing!

Most people have trouble getting into ketosis for a number of reasons..as h pointed out as well.

1. too much protein
2. too many carbs (many hidden in certain foods)
3. not training hard and long while on empty stomach

from Mr X:
Setting up a CKD (6days Ketosis/1day Carb-Up)
First-off, let’s figure out your BMR (basal-metabolic-rate). Take your weight and multiply it by 12=daily
calorie intake without a deficit.
(100lb person) Example: 100lb x 12cal= 1200cal…1200cal=BMR
Everything I put forth will revolve in one way or another around your BMR, so listen up.
6/1 ratio (6 days in ketosis/1 day carb-up)
Figure out your BMR...(basal-metabolic-rate)=caloires needed to maintain current weight
weight x 12=BMR....(EXAMPLE: 100lb x 12=1200 cal a day)
Use the following fat/protein ratios w/ BMR deficit:
Ketosis:
Day:
1-> 85%fat/15%protein--BMR-5%
2-> 75%fat/25%protein--BMR-10%
3-> 65%fat/35%protein--BMR-15%
4-> 70%fat/30%protein--BMR
5-> 70%fat/30%protein--BMR-10%
6-> 65%fat/35%protein--BMR-15%

carbing up is your option...

WHAT INTERRUPTS KETOSIS?
The only supplements that seem to reliably interrupt ketosis (that I've discovered at least) are vanadyl
(seems to affect liver glycogen status) and citrimax (Hydroxycitric acid). Citric acid (found in diet sodas) kicks
some people out of ketosis, but does not affect everybody. Aspartame also seems to affect some people but
isn't consistent. The anti-oxidant n-acetyl-cysteine can give a false positive for ketosis, but that is all I can
think of at the moment.
Basically, the only way to really negatively affect ketosis is by raising blood glucose, or affecting liver
metabolism.
Oh yeah, and eating a bunch of carbs while in Ketosis will 100% kick you out of Ketosis.

Peace,
P

check out www.metabolicdiet.com good info as well!!!

when i diet ketogenically I eat less than 10g of carbs ED. Maybe far lower than that. Beware of things that say 0 carbs. One serving may be zero carbs but two serving may have 1g of carbs. Little things like this can hinder you so really watch what you eat. To successfully diet ketogenically I try stay in DEEP ketosis, the darkest color on the ketostik. If you are not there then you need to cut carbs or find where the hidden carbs are in your diet.

Well yes there are some carbs in the cheese and the whey and I do consume diet soda's on a daily basis so I don't go crazy. I guess I'm consuming about 10-20 carbs ed. I may be eating too much protien. I'm usually Eating at least 275-300 ed. I also been calculating my bmr based on my lbm not my total weight. You guys have provided some very helpful information, some things I was not aware of.
