I think my right knee is hurting me due to going so heavy on leg extensions. Its killing me right under the knee cap. Its gets very tender and sore to the touch. Im going to lay off from the leg ext. for a while and see if that is it. Its the only thing I can think that would casue it.

The only time my knees really hurt me at all, lately, is when I'm walking up the stairs. I take the stairs instead of the elevator at work, 3 floors, and sometimes my knees kill me.

Yep, my right knee is sensitive to this because I tried to go heavy in an effort pre-exaust. It's an exercise that simply doesn't work for me so I go right into squating, leg presses, etc and finish my workout with--usually--single-leg extensions. Problem solved.

My left knee is slightly sore from leg extensions, or heavy presses, squats..but other than that its good...My feet have been killing me as of late..Being on them all day on cement .... Gotta go get new shoes...

you shouldnt go real heavy on extensions. thats what squats, hacks, and presses are for.

and how heavy is heavy?

because the leg isnt really made to naturally support tons of weight in that position.

anything mimicking a natural squat is a load bearing position. the knee is more open to injure in the ext. position.

i figured you would know all about that nuk.

X2...heavy leg extensions are probaly the worst thing you can do if you like your knees...
squat and press...

Tell me about it. I don't know how it Dorian did for all those years. I guess it goes to show you that you can't make blanket statements that sum up everone - only generalizations. I guess heavy extentions work well for guys like Dorian, and yet they reek havock on the knees of other like myself

I wonder how Dorians knees are treating him these days though...
I agree though there are some people that can get away with silly movements and not get hurt...at least for now..but I really think down the road in there later years they'll really start to feel it...
As dreww said the leg is just not designed to lift weight like that...

I'm not quite sure how they affect him but I do know he still advocates it to others. In this month's MD he published a personal workout with the heavy extensions as the beginning exercise. They were followed with leg press and hacks, I believe. Also, in the film he made with dugdale he had him doing heavy ass extensions past failure for the first exercise too. I don't know people can do that!

What do you guys consider 'heavy' for leg extensions? I usually do them last and keep the weight around 200-220 as a finisher.

I think most of us could do the stack if we wanted. Every once in while I'll do just that. But now I find that if I do them single leg I don't need to go heavier than 110 max (as a finisher)
