Minimal BF%'s

What is the bare minimum bodyfat percentage a person needs to have to be alive/healthy?

I was doing some research on the count of my brother in law. He claims to be at 2%. He is ripped and shredded beyond beleif. I doubted the 2% but after some of my research, it says 2% is possible?

What do you have to say?
 
I suppose its possible, I mean to do well in a comp, you probably have to be close to that shredded. But healthy, no. I highly doubt he is below 5-6% for an extended time without having complicating medical issues.

agreed. 2% you would be dead. all you would have to do is bump into something and you would have internal bleeding.

remember, you NEED body fat to "cusion" your internal organs...without it you are toast.

most callipurs are VERY inaccurate, i always just go by how im looking:)
 
I have a friend who competed years back and had a printout stating he was 2.4%. He was freezing all the time and we were told to keep a close eye on him. I believe the test was one where he was put in a tank of water????? Does this make sense?? I can find out more........

you don't get much lower than this without making yourself very sick;)

True- he looks great. Not minimizing dieting(trust me I am there right now) but does he have to work extremely difficult to get down to his target weight? I am looking at the old addage that endos have a harder time than mesos, like your husband?

actually....he has been doing this sport for 26 years:eek: dieting for a contest is a walk in the park for him:rolleyes: he's about 10 days out from the nationals and is still only doing 20 minutes of cardio a day (fuck i hate him sometimes:mad: )

IMO, it doesn't matter what your body type is when dieting for a show. the more times you dial yourself in, the easier it gets. of course an endomorph is going to have a harder time dieting down than a ectomorph or mesomorph, that goes without saying;)

BTW~ those pics i have posted, he is NATURAL in. 100% natural....he has a pro-card as a natural and is about to compete for his card "on the dark side":D

so gentlemen.....you can see what is obtainable being natural...you don't need drugs to get into good shape..you need a strong mind, and TIME IN!


i will post some pics after the nationals, he won't let me post any until then....but he is in better shape right now, then he was in those pics and about 40lbs heavier....yes, he is enhanced now;)
 
2%-3% is considered essential bodyfat, this is the internal fat around the organs that you need protect and feed them. I would assume the more lean muscle mass you have you would be at the low end of this.
 
bump QOD, excellent answer...I usually sit at around 3% Bodyfat for a contest, but year round I usually maintain about 5-9% bodyfat...Fast metabolism...it is a curse and a blessing all at the same time!!! Ha!Ha!

Your hubby looks dam good QOD...I am going really really dak side too...ha!Ha!
 
QOD your hubby should be up there with the Night of Champions fellas forget NPC. Wow! Best of luck with his B.B career and good luck with the Nationals. I'd hate to be up against him.

As for the BF% issue-the gold standard is hydrostatic weighing which is hard to do b/c of the cost and limited access to it unless a university has it but even then it's hard to schedule the test unless you have some friends in the Excercise/health/fitness dept.

I am going to whole heartidly agree with you. It does indeed get easier every time you do a show(it also is good because your body resets after each bout of dieting- I was surprised that I stay at 8% offseason this past year. Before that I was letting myself go to the 16-17% range) but only 20 minutes for cardio- I hate him :-)
But natural- damn hats off to him and those nay sayers that say you can't grow naturally.

he is no longer natural....he was natural in those pics;) but thank you all the same..you know my best wishes are with you at your up and coming show as well, i KNOW you will do wonderfully:)
