My Impressions of the Olympia
By George Touliatos, MD

This was my second experience at the Olympia. This time, it was special to me because my presence was as a physician and panelist, presenting my topic and participating in the roundtable of the Olympia University. Apart from the academic thing, the show itself was once again spectacular. The press conference was a little bit different setup, more of a show thing. The competition itself was very tough with a great number of athletes. Personally, the former Olympians, Ramy and Curry, were disappointments to me. I definitely had higher expectations of them. The new Mr. Olympia, Hadi Choopan, was expected to be in the top three and I think he definitely deserved his win. He had the best combination of muscularity and definition, along with thickness, roundness and hardness. Derek Lunsford was the pleasant surprise with an exceptional V-taper and striations hisin glutes like no others. As for third place, Nick Walker was a mass freak with crazy leg size and enormous thickness.

During the Olympia, I had the chance of seeing again Frank Sepe, Hany Rambod, Milos Sarcev, Sergio Oliva Jr. and of course Steve Blechman; with Rick Collins we spent some time and had lunch right after our roundtable. We also sat next to each other in the finals and later we had dinner at the gala party after the show. What satisfied me was the acknowledgment from many people during this weekend. This proves that I’m already known in the States and this is part of my success. I’m thankful for this to Muscular Development. It’s a milestone of foldout years of cooperation.
