My new bodybuilding idol...

Well, did you see how skinny the other guys were? This must have been a very novice contest he entered. But, these contests cost money to enter, right? I sometimes think these people enter as a gag, but I can't imagine paying to do it.

If he was seriously trying to compete, then props to him for getting out there and doing his best. Who knows maybe the guy used to weigh a ton and lost a bunch of weight or something?

However, I can't help but think it's gotta be a gag or something? Kinda reminds me of a stunt Will Ferrell would do or something, lol!~

I don't think it was a gag- I think it was he lost a lot of weight an wanted to see of he could do it.
Regardless or whether you guys thought it was a joke, in all honesty, it takes balls to get up on stage and parade in almost nothing in a sea of mostly people you don't know.....

Well, he was tanned and oiled up and everything, so it looked like he was doing the best he could.

That is 100% true, it took me 3 years of wanting to do one to finally muster up the guts to finally do it

holy love handles batman!

Ok, I get that he's brave and all that - but on the flip side it could very well be taken as a slap in the face to the other competitors.

Bodybuilding isn't about the other people and they're feelings. I'm sure that if he does another one (or did) then he won't show up like that again. If you're doing it by yourself which most amatuers are in their first show, it's really only a learning experience. I was joking about him being an idol, but I'm sure he learned a lot. I looked like shit and shouldn't have been on stage in my first show, but getting the first one under my belt taught me a lot and got the nervousness out of the way for the second one and so on. I don't think many people would look at it as a slap in the face, but might wonder what he is thinking like most people would. But like some have said, maybe there's more to the story (a gag or losing weight or even just always wanted to be on stage and could be a last chance in life or something)

He probably was really really overweight...looks like he lost alot of weight (the way the fat/skin looked) I would guess over or close to 100lbs or so...if course he needs to lose another 100lbs or so...but I would say he is trying ...

I've seen a lot of people lose a lot of weight and run in a marathon. Their goal during the weight loss process was to be able to do the marathon. Not to win it or finish in a certain time, but just to be able to do it. I was wondering if it was the same for this guy. He maybe lost a lot of weight and said during the process that he was going to enter a bodybuilding contest at the end. So, he may have looked silly to any real bodybuilding fan, but like most of you said, there was probably some greater motive behind him entering the show.

I think well said... Like most have noted, he got his color right so I believe he had to have some help in at least getting the small things right....

I wasn't trying to knock the guy... I think even if you were in perfect shape for a show it STILL takes a lot of guts to get up on stage in front of an audience in a speedo. That's something I don't know if I could ever personally do but have great respect for those that do.

He probably went through a big life change and for him to get out there and do what he did shows some big kahones if you ask me!

I don't think it's commendable to get up on a stage and look like shit. It doesn't matter if you weighed two tons and dropped two thirds of it. That's where my standards lie. And if it's so nerve racking to get on stage it means your not confident which is probably an indication that you don't belong up there to begin with. If I didn't believe I had every opportunity to contend, what is the fucking point?

This guy looks like shit and whether you can relate because you yourself look like shit is beside the point. We're all entitled to our opinions and each of us have our standards. Big in WV obviously has no problem getting on stage when he has no shot of contending. That great. I think that's stupid. But that's my opinion based on my standards. Don't agree? Too bad.

Like Press and many of the other guys here, I'm not the type to get on a stage and say I compete(d) just for the sake of saying I did it. Saying he shouldn't be criticized because this may a personal accomplishment outside the competition is weak. In the end it's a competition and you either win, contend, or don't. Getting up there when you have no business doing so is disrespectful to the show and those who watch and/or participate--afterall, some take this shit seriously.

This isn't to say I disagree with you -- I do see your point.

So is this the same for kids that play sports? I'm not trying to start an argument, but everyone needs to start somewhere and you don't really know what to expect at local shows. Many don't always show up in "bodybuilding" shape. I'm not saying this guy ever expected to win, but maybe this guy had never seen a bodybuilding show and never knew really what he was getting into. It's not always about winning, look at the special olympics, most of those people aren't out there to win, but just to get out there. I just can't say that I agree with this statement, but like you said everyone doesn't have the same opinions. I understand what you're saying, but I just can't say that I see things the same way. For most people you compete to win, but that's not necessarily disgracing the sport when people enter into sports or competitions when they aren't in a position to win

Fair enough bro...

I do see where you are coming but we'll just have to agree to disagree on the matter.

No hard feelings

well ok-- some good points here.... NV brings up a good point about doing shows that I was taught at the first show I ever did--- you never know who is going to show up at a show. If there were only 3 in the class and the other 2 were in far less competitive shape and the guy came in first, there would be a discussion that it was an outrage he came in first or the quality of the competitors in that class was poor.
All true but in the grand scheme of things the guy came in first. I think he takes this as learning lesson - he may or may not do another show in his life, but he can at least say "I know what the steps are to prepare for a show" and that is still more than 95% of the general public can say who don't have a clue what it takes... food for thought......

Its a SNBF show. These shows are the worse ever. You get a pro card for winning your weight class and any show of theirs. So who ever won this class is now a Pro Bodybuilder. hahahahaha! Id rather watch Kai Greene stand on his head and hump a grapefruit.
