For us we had to do bench, legs, and deadlifts or power clean 3 times a week. Most routines were 4-5 sets of 6 reps and it sucked lol.
 
yeah we had to workout so many times over the summer in order to make the football team and be able to go to the summer camp before the season started, but we did mostly Olympic lifts for football, like deads, cleans, benched of course lol , then after the weights we would have to Jump rope then do box jumps, then jump rope then box jump basicly until we puked,lol, best shape i was ever in cardio wise was during football season, and camp was HELL with 3 a days in the August Heat! Yuck!
 
The football players that were also on the wrestling team always struggled with the wrestling workouts once football training ended and wrestling season began.
 
I ran track and cross country in high school those were the only 2 sports I couldn't get kicked off of lol so my weight training at school wasn't as intense as the football teams. I also made sure I was in the weight training class with the females for obvious reasons so for me in high school hardcore weight training was not very important. as a senior I maxed out on bench at 225lb but only weighed around 160lbs I did have a standing 8 pack though
 
Bigger, Faster, Stronger....which now that I've been a strength coach for so long I realize it was a decent theory, just not implemented well.

That's the same what we did. I don't think it sucked though since I think it was what got me started weight training, and it built the foundation. Lots of kids skip the core compound exercises and go to the gym doing small exercises, wonder why they don't gain anything, and then turn to the juice because they are in too much of a hurry to get big.
