Great, im lying my ass off about medications and my blood pressure is all jacked up. 161/80... the nurse went and got another nurse to double check it.

Anyway, now i need to go back in cause there is no way they're giving me an operation with my bp so high.

I plan on laying low for a week before my next appt. Then hopefully it will go down.

I know there isnt much out there but anything over the counter that will help drop bp???

You may want to buy a blood pressure machine and test it yourself over the next week or two.

Lots of people get white coat syndrome and their BP get high around a doctors office. This happens to my wife and she is the most in shape person I know.

Before you visit the doc next time stay away from caffine and stimulants and make sure you are sufficiently hydrated.

Hawthorn Berries helped my BP a bit, about -10/5 or so. Not bad, not great. I got six bottles for about $1 each on clearance at GNC.

Honestly, with that BP it matters on what type of surgery you are having. I take care of patients that are pre/post op all the time. Not uncommon to have them 160/110 or even worse (I was sitting at 160/120 before losing 18lbs). They still did the operation or procedure. Most of them were heart caths but a few bypasses. The bypass patients all had a ton of BP meds though, most IV at the time. Might mean you staying an extra day or two to keep it under control for some time before the operation.

But yeah, that is pretty high. One doc likes his patients BP around 90/50! When I see that pop up, I know who there doc is right away.

my pulse was normal... or fairly. 72... isnt that weird??

anyway, Im dropping some supplements.

should be fine in a couple weeks.

Potassium helps bring it down a little, and there's policosanol and possibly a little bit of aspirin. I've measured at 170/94 before so to me that reading isn't so bad. They say the lower number being high is worse than the larger number being high.

TNE bro! Hey you know whats weird is I just checked my bp about 10 minutes ago at right aid and I got the same exact reading you had. I've never seen my bp that high.

I wish those fing machines at walmart and rite aid had arm bands that would fit. Fing cant fit my forearm in there.

Is there an accurate machine i can buy to keep checking my blood pressure???

That's a good problem to have. My forearm fits much too easily! And yes, they sell bp moniters for obese people at any RiteAid. They are usually 99 bucks.

If you can find a BP monitor that has a detachable cuff, you can go to a medical supply store and get a bigger cuff. We have them at work. Every single cart now has a HUGE cuff for obese people, as I'd say 50% of the people I deal with are obese.

Or you can go the old fashion way and learn to do it yourself, my preferred method. The "old" (2-3 years old) machines at work are often off when compared to a manual BP. The new ones are much closer.

I bought about a 30 dollar wrist bp auto monitor. It works pretty good i tested it with my gpa's manual bp cuff and it was within 3 points every time.

I just picked up a real nice one with an arm band from walmart. 75 bucks

This is what I have "cuff style", i got one from Walgreens for $60 it claims to be "medically certified accurate"

i wonder what a peak heart rate should be??? 140/80...??? or maybe a little higher.

Its easy to adjust when your on short esters.

peak heart "rate" or peak blood pressure.

anything over 120/80 is considered high. I believe anything over 140/90 is considered hypertensive.

Disease Stages

Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. When a person has a blood pressure reading between 120/80 and 139/89, this condition is called prehypertension. Stage 1 hypertension is defined as 140-159 over 90-99, and a blood pressure above those levels is considered Stage 2 hypertension.3
The Stages of Hypertension
Blood pressure (mm Hg) Stage
Less than 120/80 Normal
120/80 to 139/89 Prehypertension
140/90 to 159/99 Stage 1 hypertension
160/100 and higher Stage 2 hypertension

fing went back for my pre op. They tested it again, 160/88.... wtf?? I would think after being off for a week it would have went down a little....
