So it's been 7 weeks since I started running and cycling and I've learned a few new things about my body. I always new I was sensitive to carbs. Ive never even been able to take preworkout supps because the pumps were too intense, but I never thought carbs would effect my running this badly!! I have tried this many times both on purpose and accident and it never fails. If I eat ANY carbs before I run by the the end of my 2nd mile my quads are so tight and full they will barely bend, but that's not tge worst part! The next day the intense soreness I feel (usually in my teardrop) is so incredible it literally takes my breath away to get out of bed. Days i have a straight whey shake i feel great' Like I said I've tried this probably 10 times and everytime this happens. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this.

Thats insane! I couldn't imagine not having carbs in me during a race let alone not taking them during also.

What are you taking for your carbs?

I've drank a 50 gram whey shake mixed with a 1 cup of ground oatmeal for at least 5 years. So that's what I tried when I switched over to running. Now it's just 50 grams of whey and a big table spoon of natty PB. My body does pretty well on higher fats and lower carbs.

try taking in simple carbs. I use to swear by CarboPro by SportsQuest. Lots of pros use it. I use to make my own gel with it and put it in baggies and eat/drink it during my long workouts.

Part of the issue a lot of people have is teaching their bodies to digest during competition and training. My brother is an ultra marathon runner and that fool it's a pizza on the run like it was a cliff bar.

I'm afraid I'll crash on simple carbs. I'm going to try the no carb high fat prerace meal next week for my first race and see how it goes.

I would never leave out or do low carbs in any endurance sport. You'll hit a wall.

When I volunteered at my first Ironman race I saw the special needs bags the pros had and they were full of candy, fig bars, and other home made brews.

I don't remember how many grams of carbs i did but it was timed somewhere about 100g for some workouts.

I'll take some simple carbs with me in case I need them. I'm going to be drinking carbojet tge entire race too so that should help with the "bonking"

You think some of it has to do with a lactic acid build up?

That should be fine. Just watch for any GI issues early on.

That's what I thought at first presser but what's the correlation with lactic acid and carbs! I swear I can go no carbs for breakfast and feel perfect.

because lactic acid is a sugar compound. lactic acid is the product of the Energy, where the energy used is the sugars(Carbohydrates) and the product is the lactic acid formed from the ATP during the energy exertion during exercise.;)
