Over 25 percent of the performers from Wrestlemania VII have died

Over one-quarter of the performers who took part in 1991's Wrestlemania VII have died, a wrestling website noted in the wake of the death of "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

The Wrestling Observer newsletter discovered that 14 of the 51 performers at the event have died in the past 20 years, with many of the deaths attributed to drug use. The list of wrestlers who have died since 1991 include some of the biggest stars in the sport like Savage, Andre the Giant, Miss Elizabeth and The British Bulldog. Causes of death include suicides, murder and heart attacks, some the result of years of anabolic steroid use. Savage died last week after suffering an apparent heart attack behind the wheel of his truck. His ex-wife, Miss Elizabeth, passed away after overdosing on a variety of drugs in 2003.

Looking at the list is a sobering reminder of the realities of a make-believe sport like professional wrestling. Not all of the men and women listed played a part in their own demise; referee Joey Marella was the victim of a car crash that occurred when he was driving home from a match.

As wrestlinginc.com points out, none of the 44 starters from the Super Bowl played in 1991 have passed away and only two of 44 boxers who held a championship belt that year are gone.

At 58, Savage made it nearly a decade longer than some of his deceased colleagues.

Of course this writer blames most of the deaths on steroid use. Chris Chase is a total idiot. He is a blog writer for Yahoo and most of his articles are a complete waste of time.

Agreed. Those guys did a lot of other stuff outside the ring other that gear. When your on the road damn near year round its not like they can eat and rest properly.

Maybe the report should not that a few of those guys where morbidly obese and had horrible diets....but lets blame steroids as opposed to McDonalds, cause McDonalds isn't illegal.....the media has some serious misguided priorities

I mean, beating your body up everyday and getting little rest/time to heal and the fact that they probably don't eat healthy couldn't possibly be a contributing factor. Nor the fact that most of these people probably come from fucked up backgrounds with parental problems and substance abuse issues throughout their younger years, but I can see where blaming steroids makes sense. I guess the victims of 9/11 must have been on juice too!!! I'm so tired of this cop out I seriously want to beat the shit out of these nobody's who use this excuse all the time. Last time I checked, Arnold did juice (lots of it), smoked dope and he's still living strong in his 60s. Hell, he's even able to conceive a child, but I guess that isn't included in their thought process.

More than half of those were things other than heart problems and this isn't even considering that most of the ones with heart problems were fucking overweight!!! And Macho Man was in his late 50s, I know a lot of people who have heart attacks at 50, but steroids had to have caused theirs too

Lot of these guys were on heavy pain killers. Body cant take that abuse
and keep going.

Loads of people dying everyday from overdosing on pain killers. Mix that with the sedatives I'm sure they're also on to help them sleep and that creates a lethal mix
