Flex Wheeler To Have Difficult Back Surgery: ‘They’re Not Even Sure I’ll Make It Through’

Flex Wheeler shared the news from the 2022 Arnold Sports Festival.
Flex Wheeler has dealt with health issues recently and he recently gave an update on his latest hurdle. The bodybuilding legend is present at the 2022 Arnold Sports Festival launching Bullfrog Nutrition, his signature nutrition series. This is where he shared that he will have to go through a difficult back surgery with many complications.
In a recent Instagram video, Wheeler explained the current situation. He went through rotator cuff surgery on Thursday and will now need to have back surgery, which is a complicated procedure that brings many risks.

““I’ve a major back surgery coming up and that’s going to be pretty intensive. I’ll be really cutting clear about it. They’re not even sure if I’ll be able to make it through that surgery or the recovery. But it’s something I have to do because I can’t endure the pain anymore,” Flex Wheeler explained.

Flex Wheeler continued by explaining his recent path. He was rushed to the hospital on Monday morning due to complications of the rotator cuff surgery. He was discharged that same day and was able to make it to the Arnold sports Festival on Tuesday. This was one day later than he was supposed to travel but he was thankful to make it out there at all.
“The tube that they put down your throat to help you breathe while you’re unconscious, unfortunately did a lot of damage to my throat. So, Monday morning I had to call emergency. They brought me in and immediately the EMT said you’re not going to make it tomorrow. We’re definitely going to keep you for 24 hours.
I appreciate all you guys support. Thank you everybody who came out to support Bullfrog Nutrition… Thank you very much Bullfrog for my line. I’ll look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and throughout this weekend.”
Flex Wheeler was in the hospital for 14 days and this is how the doctors pinpointed his back issues. At 56 years old, Wheeler is continuing to fight against multiple issues and keeping a positive attitude.

Wheeler was forced to spend time in the hospital with a severe case of COVID-19 in the fall. He was released from the hospital in November after a month of fighting the disease. Even during that fight, Wheeler remained in god spirits providing updates to fans on his condition.
“So I’m going through that with my will and all that stuff. So, what’s the lesson behind all this? Never give up, man! Simple as that. Never ever give up.”

Milos Sarcev Lists The Most Shocking Pro Bodybuilding Physique Transformations Ever

Milos Sarcev Lists The Most Shocking Pro Bodybuilding Physique Transformations Ever

[embedded content]

Milos Sarcev talks about the most shocking physique transformations he has ever seen by a pro bodybuilder.
There are moments throughout the history of bodybuilding physiques that stand the test of time. Moments that fundamentally changed the future of the sport – perhaps known in the moment or understood later in retrospect. Dorian Yates‘ mass monster physique first appearing on stage is a great example. It shocked audiences and judges. It change the direction of physiques for the rest of the industry. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Milos Sarcev recounts the most shocking pro bodybuilder physique transformations he had ever seen.
Milos Sarcev has been deeply involved in bodybuilding for majority of his life. He was a powerful competitor during his prime years. He claims to have brought insulin into the sport (for better or worse). And after retiring from the stage, he put his efforts into being a coach and trainer for future generations. So it would stand to reason that his insights into the past, present, and future of the sport are valuable in light of his successes.

That’s why we asked a series of questions to Milos Sarcev during our latest interview – ranging from the hardest working bodybuilders today to the most genetically gifted. We also asked him, in his opinion, what was the most shocking physique transformation he had ever seen in pro bodybuilding.

Milos Sarcev brings up two key figures. First, he discusses Flex Wheeler going from 208 pounds to 245 pounds. While this might not seem on its face a drastic change – Wheeler’s 208 physique was “skinny fat” as Sarcev would call it. More importantly, this transformation happened in the matter of only three weeks.
For Flex Wheeler to transform from out of shape “skinny fat” into a titan of muscle and conditioning in just three weeks is astounding. Of course, it’s also not fully surprising for Wheeler. He has been known to be a truly genetically gifted athlete. Perhaps one of the most genetically gifted to ever step on stage. Milos Sarcev admits as much earlier during this interview segment.
Milos Sarcev also points out Ronnie Coleman‘s transformation between 2002 and 2003. Ronnie was Olympia champion in both 2002 and 2003 – and yet the change in his physique is known by fans far and wide. It’s the moment that Ronnie left planet earth and solidified himself as a true unmatched legend in the sport.
Proof of this can be seen in what happened between these two years. After Ronnie Coleman won the 2002 Mr. Olympia, he later competed and lost to Gunter Schlierkamp. A surprising turn of events for a current Olympia champion. Something like that would never happen again for The King. By the time he reappeared at the 2003 Mr. Olympia – there was no doubt that he would remain unstoppable.
You can watch Milos Sarcev go into more detail about both Flex Wheeler’s and Ronnie Coleman’s shocking pro bodybuilding transformations in our latest GI Exclusive interview segment above. He also discusses the hardest working bodybuilders currently competing and the most genetically gifted bodybuilders of all time.

Andrew Jacked Trains Legs, Gets Posing Tips From Flex Wheeler

Flex Wheeler took some time to give advice to Andrew Jacked ahead of his next competition.
Andrew Jacked is preparing to turn some heads during the 2022 Arnold Classic Amateur coming up. The winner of the show will earn his Pro Card and qualify for the 2023 Arnold Classic. Recently, Jacked was seen training with a legendary bodybuilder who knows a thing or two about the Arnold Classic. Flex Wheeler joined Andrew Jacked for a leg day and shared some posing advice following the session.
Wheeler won the Arnold Classic four times during his illustrious career. He is still active in the bodybuilding world sharing his wisdom and this time, it was with one of the up-and-coming talents. Jacked has been working with Wheeler, and Milos Sarcev, as he attempts to earn his Pro Card at the Arnold Amateur.

Andrew Jacked took to Instagram to show a massive leg day, along with some posing, with Wheeler.
“Heavy presses, Light Presses Same Reps Same Mentality Same Goal. Stay Focused on The Mission!
Yesszzziirrr !!!@officialflexwheelerFlex wheeler athlete”

Flex Wheeler does not train Andrew Jacked regularly but this is not the first time that the duo has gotten together. Back in December, the two were seen together as Jacked was preparing for what could be a special 2022 season. He has a chance to have a massive year that involves his Pro Card and an automatic qualification to the second biggest bodybuilding show of the year.

It is clear that Andrew Jacked has focused on his legs as an area of improvement. There are noticeable changes to his quads and hamstrings over the last few months. Jacked is not shy about posting physique updates and when he does, he looks better than the one before. This is important as he enters the 2022 season leading up to the Arnold Classic Amateur.
Jacked has not hesitated to reach out to some of the biggest names in the sport and this is not a bad path to take. Wheeler has competed at the Olympia seven times taking home four top-three finishes, including three silver medals. He is one of the best Arnold Classic competitors ever with four victories. He trails only Dexter Jackson, who won the event five times.
Andrew Jacked looks the part of an IFBB professional and he will have a chance to take that final step. With the help of Flex Wheeler and other bodybuilding legends, Jacked could be ready to win the Arnold Classic Amateur.

Flex Wheeler Released Form Hospital, Discusses Battle With COVID-19

Flex Wheeler Released Form Hospital, Discusses Battle With COVID-19

Legendary bodybuilder details battle with COVID-19 after released from hospital.
It was not an easy road for Flex Wheeler but the bodybuilding legend has defeated COVID-19. Wheeler was recently released from the hospital and shared yet another update on his health. This time, it was not from a hospital bed but from his hotel in Orlando.
On Wednesday, Wheeler shared a 12-minute video where he shared details about how he contracted COVID-19 and his long battle with the virus. He began by explaining how he caught the virus in the first place.

Wheeler explains that he was in England for the 2021 Arnold Classic and this is where he caught the virus. Wheeler did not begin to experience symptoms until he was home and preparing to fly out to the Olympia. He returned home from England on Monday and was prepared to fly to Orlando on Wednesday.
“Wednesday on my flight, I just started feeling horrible. My body started aching and cranking and I remember, like, reaching for my lat, my trap and my arm cramped. Goddamn, you know. It feels like I’ve been working out but I haven’t worked out in a really long time. It just got worse,” Wheeler said.
“By the time i had gone up to my room wednesday, i just went straight to bed. i hardly left my room at all.”
“I was screaming in my sleep because I had such severe body aches.”

Flex Wheeler was preparing to work with production during the 2021 Olympia. He had competed in six Olympia competitions throughout his career with four top-three finishes, including three as a runner-up. Wheeler was victorious during the Arnold Classic four times. Wheeler has drawn plenty of praise from Arnold Schwarzenegger himself.

While Wheeler was not preparing to compete, he was still going to be part of the event. Instead, his symptoms continued to get worse and this is when he decided to do something about it.
“I woke up Friday at 5 in the morning and the entire bed was drenched again. I was like’ you know, you’re up here worried about your pride or being embarrassed and you’re gonna f around and die here in this damn hotel bed.’ So I called 911.”
Flex Wheeler met the emergency officers and he was diagnosed with COVID-19 at the hospital. This is where Wheeler remained and received treatment for several weeks.

Wheeler continued to explain how he felt worse each day and it began with his lungs. Wheeler underwent a kidney transplant in 2003. He retired from bodybuilding that same year in order to remain on top of his health. To this day, Wheeler is still medicated because of his condition.
The doctors explained to Wheeler that he would have to be taken off his kidney medication so that his lungs, which were deteriorating, could be treated properly.
“They told me they had to put my kidney at risk because my immune system had not come online yet to fight and that my lungs were getting worse and worse every time they take an X-ray or a CAT scan,” Wheeler explained.
“They would show me the scarring and the white tissue. They said ‘if you don’t get ahead of this curve, you’re going to be on a ventilator and it’s downhill from there.”
This was a decision that the doctors made to save Wheeler’s lungs. At the same time, some damage might have been done to his kidneys in the process. This was a decision that had to be made to keep Wheeler in his best interest.
Wheeler finished his video by thanking the doctors and medical staff that took care of him during his recovery.
“I’m just thankful for all the doctors, all the nurses, all the overwhelming messages that I got from all the internet mediums, and the outpour of love and respect and appreciation. It didn’t fall on deaf ears. I can never show you how much I appreciate that.”
Flex Wheeler expressed his excitement in returning home from Orlando. He will continue to monitor his health and improve from this moment on.

Flex Wheeler Shares Update On Condition, Receives Well Wishes From Dave Bautista

Flex Wheeler Shares Update On Condition, Receives Well Wishes From Dave Bautista

Flex Wheeler gave a recent update during his battle with COVID-19 and it included a message from Dave Bautista.
Flex Wheeler was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Oct. 9 and has been dealing with the virus ever since. He has provided updates on his condition over the last few weeks and it has been a struggle for the former bodybuilder. Wheeler recently provided another update and it featured well wishes from Dave Bautista.
Wheeler has been able to stay positive throughout the recovery process as he continues to fight the virus. There has been plenty of support for Wheeler from the bodybuilding world but they are not the only community sharing well wishes.

Bautista, a former WWE star turned actor, shared a video message where he had some kid words to say to Wheeler.
“We love you big dog. Just do your thing and get better, like you always do. Just pull through this and keep inspiring people. It’s not your time brother,” Bautista said.
Flex Wheeler shared the video of Dave Bautista on his Instagram page and responded right away. Wheeler thanked the star for his kind words and agreed with the sentiment.
“Sincerely appreciate your support homie ? @davebautista
“The Original Super Duper Fly”
You’re 100% right brother, it’s not my time.
I can’t wait to get out of here to check out your new movie ? ?
I want to congratulate you on all your success and future success.
Your friendship means the world to me. I hope you and the Family have a amazing Halloween tonight save me some candy.”

Flex Wheeler has been through a lot over the last month. In his previous update, he shared that he was in acute kidney failure. The virus has even done some damage to his lungs but Wheeler has continued to shine and be as positive as ever. This is not surprising as he continues to fight to defeat the virus.

On Saturday, Flex Wheeler took to Instagram to share a video of a positive message. He showed the hospital room he is in and discussed the path that God has put him on. Throughout the video and the message, Wheeler can be seen with a smile. This is the type of person he was throughout his career and that has continued.

The entire staff here at Generation Iron send out hope and support for Flex Wheeler during this time. The Generation Iron Fitness Network will continue to provide updates as they become available for this developing story. We all hope for a smooth and strong recovery in the days ahead.

Still Hospitalized, Flex Wheeler Gives Update On His Condition

Still Hospitalized, Flex Wheeler Gives Update On His Condition

Flex Wheeler shares update on Instagram with a mix of positive and concerning news.
On October 9th, 2021, Flex Wheeler announced that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The announcement in question was posted from the hospital via his Instagram. Though he remained positive and claimed, “I will defeat the virus,” fans were concerned due to the fact he was hospitalized. Now just a few days later, Flex Wheeler has provided an update on his condition – containing a combination of good and bad news.
Posting a picture from his hospital bed, Flex Wheeler reveals that he is still hospitalized but starts with some positive news. His COVID-19 symptoms are getting less severe. His fever is reducing with less aches and migraines. He also reveals that he had developed some respiratory issues – though did not need to be intubated. He has been given medication that seems to be having a positive effect – and states that the hospital staff seem to be more positive after his latest chest scans.
“Still in the hospital. Covid Bon-respiratory symptoms are getting better. Body aches, fever, and migraines are starting to get less excruciating day by day.
A few days ago I did start to experience respiratory issues. I was put on oxygen (no breathing tube) and meds. The meds seem to be working and they have lowered the level of oxygen that I am on. I will be on these meds for at least another 11 days. The doctors did actually smile during my last chest films, they don’t normally give you a hint either way, so I’ll take it!”

Unfortunately, despite this seemingly positive news, Flex Wheeler also shares some concerning updates. He has also suffered acute kidney failure. This seems connected to the fact that he had a kidney transplant only a year ago. This has put him on immunosuppressant drugs. This, Wheeler claims, puts him in a strange unique position of being immunocompromised while also on immunosuppressant drugs. This is a potentially dangerous combination when it comes to the COVID-19 virus.
“The scary: I am in acute kidney failure, so my INR stabilization is an issue right now. As you may know, I received a kidney transplant over a decade ago.
I am in that rare case of people that are immunocompromised, while also taking immunosuppressant drugs for my kidney. So, even though I’m fully vaccinated, I hit that sweet spot that put me in danger for this virus. Covid really is he worst thing that I’ve ever gone through.”
Despite this scary news, Flex Wheeler remains positive. He thanks friends, family, and those in the bodybuilding community that have provided him support. He ends off his update by stating, “I will beat this!”

The entire staff here at Generation Iron send out hope and support for Flex Wheeler during this time. The Generation Iron Fitness Network will continue to provide updates as they become available for this developing story. We all hope for a smooth and strong recovery in the days ahead.

Blockbuster Interviews with 3 Successful Bodybuilders

Blockbuster Interviews with 3 Successful Bodybuilders

It was not until half a century ago that bodybuilding came to be recognized as an international sport. However, what most people don’t know is that it was pioneered by some people who dared to venture into something new. The sport has gradually grown in popularity and is now found in virtually every corner of the globe. In this article, we are going to highlight interviews with the three most successful bodybuilders in the world of fitness. We hope you will get inspiration from their sentiments to take your fitness career to a new level.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sometimes considered the most successful and greatest bodybuilder of all time, the former governor of California is a household name. Arnold Schwarzenegger immigrated to the united states to look for a better life. After a few years of trying to figure out what to do with his life, the former heavyweight champion finally found a place in fitness. Arnold has been interviewed numerous times but we are going to highlight one interview conducted by David Greene of NPR. This particular interview was very objective as it highlighted many aspects of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career and life.

Interview Highlights
We may not be able to cover every detail of the interview but we shall highlight parts that are most relevant to bodybuilding.
On What Motivated Him to Venture In Bodybuilding
Like most successful sportspeople, Arnold’s bodybuilding career started by taking a rough path. Every one has an idol and his was Reg Park. In his own words, he stated.

“I saw this magazine that had my idol on the cover, Reg Park, who became Mr. Universe three times and won, and then ended up in the Hercules movie in the 60s. And so he kind of became my idol. And so then I started cutting out pictures of these bodybuilding magazines and weightlifting magazines and put them up on the wall above my bed, kind of to remind me every day this is what I ought to look like, train every day, and one day, I will be like that. So it was a kind of motivation vehicle for me.”

From his sentiments, we can see that he started looking up to someone he considered mightier, but look who he became. His was a matter of having a goal, in form of his hero, and working hard to accomplish it.

On Handling Challenges to His Career
People are hardly noticed in the early years of their career. It is at this stage that they get to enjoy a little bit of privacy. Once their star starts shining, they will be subjected to every kind of scrutiny. It was not any different for Arnold Schwarzenegger. As his star begun growing, so did the opposition, from within and outside. Here is what he had to say about his mother.

“But my mother looked at it in a different way… I took her into the bedroom, and I said look how I decorated my bed above here, the wall. She shook her head and, you know, didn’t say much. And I was kind of concerned why she didn’t really say something or didn’t compliment me of how well I decorated the wall. The next thing I knew was she flagged down the doctor, who every Wednesday, came with his little Fiat by our house. And she asked him to come up to the house and to look at my bedroom wall. And so… he came to the bedroom, and he looked at the wall, and she said: ‘Look at this. I mean, my son has all these naked pictures of men …’ “

Despite all the opposition from his mother, he still went ahead to prove her wrong by becoming the best.

Frank Zane
Frank Zane is another successful bodybuilder who won Mr. Olympia three times. Also considered one of the greatest of all time, this moving mass can only be compared to legends of Hercules, Zeus and Poseidon. With incredible physique that djrove women crazy, Zane was some kind of demigod between 1977 and 1979. It was at this period that he won the three Mr. Olympia titles consecutively. Fran,k Zane was interviewed by FLEX and this is what he had to say about his life and career.
Interview Highlights
It is important to know that Zane’s career spanned almost 40 years, but he was most active in the 70s and early 80s.
On How He Formulated His First Training Routine

“It was all by people I’d met, things I’d read and trial and error. When I first started out, I was about 18 actually younger I was about 16 or17 when I really got serious. I worked out every other day after school, doing upper body one day, legs the next. I kept that routine for a while and it worked well for me. Then, in the mid-late 60s, when I was living in Florida, I increased the number of workouts so that I was training six days a week, but it was still upper body one day, legs the next.”

When Asked About His Preferred ab Exercises

“Usually crunches and/or Roman-chair situps for upper abs. Leg raises or hanging knee-ups for upper abs, seated twists for obliques.”

His Response to Why the Current Generation of Bodybuilders Don’t Give Much Time to ab Training

“Worked for me. I just went by the example of those who had been training at Gold’s Gym in Venice when I got there. You know, in the late 60s Zabo Koszewski was there and he had the best abs and I figured, well, I’ll try it. He would do 500 Roman-chair situps in the morning and 500 leg raises in the afternoon and so that’s what I did. I figured if you had great abs and you had everything else, you’d look even better, and it worked.”

How Diet Played a Role in his Conditioning
“My diet was always very good, but volume training in itself really conditions you. If you go heavy, you’ll grow too, but boy, volume training really works you down to your core. To this day, I still practice volume, except now I will train three days a week or so.”
Comparing His Training Today and 30 Years Ago
“On the whole, it is, with lighter weights and less volume, of course. I have to say that I rely heavily on muscle memory these days, and it is a pretty amazing thing. I don’t have to train that much anymore to stay in decent shape, which is good because my joints couldn’t handle a lot of this work now. But there comes a point in your 60s when you hit a kind of age barrier, and the gains come slower and the accumulated stress you put on your body all those years adds up. It’s a bit of a balancing act – knowing how much to train to elicit results without aggravating old injuries.”

 3. Flex Wheeler
We couldn’t leave the Sultan of Symmetry out of our best three for obvious reasons. Flex Wheeler was interviewed by bodybuilding legend Kevin Levrone. This was a very unique interview because it was just two legends having a chat and digging into the past. There are a few points we can pick from the chat. Here is how the interview went down.

Interview Highlights
When Asked Who Was the Most dreadful Competitor He Ever Faced
On this, Wheeler did not hesitate to mention Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates. He also went ahead to state that he could have easily defeated Ronnie Coleman in the 1999 contest but admitted that Ronnie was a great Mr. Olympia.

About Back-to-Back Weekly Competitions
Like most bodybuilders of his time, Flex Wheeler didn’t find it difficult to compete every week. He had to squeeze in time for training every week in anticipation of the next contest. It was a time when bodybuilding as a sport was picking momentum so there was motivation all around.
The Hardest Training Partner Flex Ever Had
A training partner plays a crucial role in shaping and influencing one’s mindset. He/she instills the spirit of competition and this goes a long way in preparing you for major contests. Flex Wheeler revealed that Chris Cormier was the hardest person he ever trained with. Being one of the strongest bodybuilders at that time, Cormier pushed Flex to his limits, thus turning him into a beast.

Overall
As you may have noticed, the three interviews have valuable lessons any bodybuilder can use to make an extra stride in their career. We have tackled unique aspects of bodybuilding in each, from personal struggles to training routines. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Zane, and Flex Wheeler all looked up to someone and worked their way up to reach that level. And in most cases, the prodigy goes ahead and becomes better than their idol. That is a hell of a motivation for any bodybuilder who wants to put their name on the world map. You can follow up on the full interviews from the sources indicated.
