Robert Oberst Shares Plan To Retire Following 2023 World’s Strongest Man

Robert Oberst will “ride off into the sunset” after the 2023 WSM competition.
Robert Oberst has become one of the most well-known strongmen during his career. Beginning in 2012, Oberst has competed in nay big-time competitions and has a plan to appear in one more before calling it a career. Oberst recently shared his plan to return to the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2023 and then calling it a career.
Oberst posted a video to his YouTube page discussing his retirement plans along with plans for the 2022 World’s Strongest Nation, which he will be a captain in. Oberst will miss the 2022 World’s Strongest Man event before returning in 2023. After that show, he will “ride off into the sunset.”

“It’ll be hard to sit this one out. For those of you who don’t know, I will be sitting this one out. I will be back next year. I will be back competing in the 2023 World’s Strongest Man once I prove myself at the Giants’ Live. After that, I will be done. This will be my riding off into the sunset. I will be doing one more big show. It is time for me to thank God that I have not beaten up and torn up anymore than I already have.”
Robert Oberst will be the captain of Team USA during the first-annual World’s Strongest Nation competition. This will feature Team USA taking on Team UK, which will feature the return to strongman for Eddie Hall.
Oberst suffered a shoulder injury last year that kept him out of competition. He has decided to skip the 2022 WSM and will train for next year. Later in the video, Oberst continues to talk about his plans for retirement, which include building a ranch and continuing his love for the outdoors.
“I’m building a race. I’m super excited about. I’m going to spend my time out there. We’re going to have hunting and training and courses for kids and stuff like that. I was in the Boy Scouts as a kid and it meant a lot to me to be around positive adults and to learn so much cool stuff about being in the wilderness and survival. It’s something that meant a lot to me for a long time.”

Robert Oberst has appeared in eight World’s Strongest Man competitions over the course of his career. He earned runner-up finishes during the 2013 and 2014 America’s Strongest Man shows. Oberst’s career has spanned over a decade and he will remain an influential voice in strongman even once his competition days are over.

Robert Oberst Addresses Steroids in Recent Video

Robert Oberst talk about steroid usage.
Popular strongman Robert Oberst recently spoke openly on the subject of steroid usage. The long time competitor touched on the subject in a recent YouTube video.
The usage of anabolic steroids in competitive endeavors has always been a touchy subject to address. After all, many believe that the use of steroids is equivalent to cheating. If there’s one thing fans hate it’s a cheater. Yet in certain sporting endeavors the idea of utilizing anabolic substances is par for the course. Essentially it’s a no brained to use steroids in bodybuilding and even in powerlifting. There are even strongman competitors who have admitted to using anabolic substances to with their performance.
When you compete at the highest levels of any sport the idea of losing can be terrifying. For that very reason many athletes seek out any kind of advantage in order to win. For many that means taking performance enhancing drugs.
Oberst’s Addresses Steroids
Long time strongman competitor Robert Oberst has been a staple in the scene for years. Oberst has been consistently competing for so long that inevitably the question of whether or not he’s used anabolic substances has arose. In a recent Instagram post Oberst teased addressing whether he’s took anabolic substances to help push his progress.

For a decade people have been asking me day in and day out about NATTY OR NOT?!?! It’s time we peel back the curtain and open up!!
Do you think it’s time we open Pandora’s box?

In a recent video on his YouTube channel Robert Oberst touched on the subject further. He opts to refer to the substance as “hormones” or “testosterone” rather than steroids or anabolic substances. Why exactly isn’t clear. What is clear is the statement he issued about why performance enhancers are utilized by athletes.

when you get past that (physical prime), it’s noticeable for sure.  So, from a professional athlete’s standpoint, it’s one of those things you can’t let dip. You can’t just let your body start to shut down and expect to get the same results out of it.

Robert Oberst eludes to his usage but doesn’t quite give explicit details. That said it does seem clear that he has used something in the past.
Returning to Top Form
It does appear that Robert Oberst is also dealing with lower testosterone levels. He apparently got approval to take something for his low test levels since he hopes to get back in top shape.

What’s your thoughts on Robert Oberst opening up about his performance enhancement usage.

Robert Oberst Suffers Tear To Shoulder Tendon, Will Not Require Surgery

Robert Oberst Suffers Tear To Shoulder Tendon, Will Not Require Surgery

Robert Oberst will begin rehabbing a shoulder injury that has kept him out of competition.
Robert Oberst has announced that he suffered a tear to a tendon in his right shoulder. The powerlifter posted a video on his YouTube page to make the announcement.
Oberst explained that the tear is a half-centimeter and will not require surgery. It was in the front of the shoulder and was a bursae-sided tear, which means it was on the outside of the joint.
“I know everyone wants to hear why I had to pull out of The Shaw Classic. Well, you’ll know as soon as I do. Getting a shoulder/upper bicep MRI right now and hoping it’s something I can fix up fast!! Don’t worry, I’ll be back Til The Wheels Fall Off”

Robert Oberst was scheduled to take place in the 2021 Shaw Classic, which took place on Aug. 27-28. Just days before the competition, Oberst pulled out of the competition with a shoulder injury but there was no other information released at the time. Now, it is clear why he was forced to miss the event.
Oberst set up an appointment with Dr. Joseph Lynch, who is a shoulder specialist. He advised Oberst to avoid rotator cuff surgery as this would have left a stronger chance that Oberst’s career in lifting might be over. Because the tendon did not retract from the bone, the option to avoid surgery was on the table.
This means that Oberst will have to rehab the injury with lighter weights and anti-inflammatories until the pain is more tolerable. His return to competition will depend on how effective the rehabilitation process is.
There is no solid timetable for when Robert Oberst might return to competition but if all goes well, it could be the beginning of 2022. The fact that he did not need surgery is good news if Oberst wants to return to powerlifting soon. For now, he will have to focus on the rehab and getting that should back to full strength.

Robert Oberst and Oleksii Novikov Withdraw From 2021 Shaw Classic Due To Injuries

Robert Oberst and Oleksii Novikov Withdraw From 2021 Shaw Classic Due To Injuries

The 2021 Shaw Classic will be without two elite competitors this year as Robert Oberst and Oleksii Novikov withdraw.
The 2021 Shaw Classic will take place from on Aug. 27-28 in Estes Park, CO. On Monday, Brian Shaw announced that the field would look a bit different moving forward. Both Robert Oberst and Oleksii Novikov have withdraw from the competition with injuries.
Shaw made the announcement on the Shaw Classic Instagram account. Gabriel Pena and Gabriel Rheaume will be used as replacements. There will still be 16 participants, highlighted by four-time World’s Strongest Man champion Zydrunas Savickas.
“Athlete Update
Wishing the best to the injured athletes and excited to welcome the new athletes. Thank you all for the continued support of the Shaw Classic.”

According to Shaw, Oberst will miss the competition with a shoulder injury while Novikov is still recovering from a concussion suffered as the 2021 Strongman Classic. Neither competition has made an official statement themselves just yet.
This is not the first time that the lineup for the Shaw Classic had to be revised. Luke Richardson had to withdraw due to a bicep injury. Tom Stoltman and Luke Stoltman also pulled their names out. Even with five competitors being forced to withdraw, the competition still has some elite names and will be as exciting as ever.
Rheaume is an up-and-coming powerlifter. The 24-year-old made some noise when he won the Canada’s Strongest Man competition this year. This was his biggest win since he began competing in 2018. As for Pena, he is a name that is more well-known. He took place in the 2020 World’s Strongest Man and 2021 World Open. He was forced to leave the 2020 WSM with a heart issue but has been training hard and it ready to compete.
The 2021 Shaw Classic will be the second annual event run by Brian Shaw himself. He won the first ever competition in 2020 and will be defending his title this year. Shaw will have to battle the likes of Savickas, Evan Singleton, Bobby Thompson, and Adam Bishop. There will be some names missing but this should not take away from the intensity of the event.

Robert Oberst Responds To Comments Made By Arnold Schwarzenegger

Robert Oberst Responds To Comments Made By Arnold Schwarzenegger

Robert Oberst is the latest to comment on the recent news surrounding Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When Arnold Schwarzenegger said “screw your freedom” in an interview with CNN regarding anti-maskers, this caused quite the uproar. Schwarzenegger was commenting on people who do not wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic and went as far as to call them “schmucks.” There have been plenty of moves made following these comments and strongman Robert Oberst was the latest to respond.
Oberst posted a video on his “American Monster Productions” YouTube page. In this video, Oberst shares his view on the comments made by Schwarzenegger and the recent moves made by different companies.
“In his kind of little upset screaming rant thing that he was doing, which seemed very, you know, for the cameras,” Oberst said.
“First, “I looked up to Arnold as a kid, grew up loving him, watching him. I met him a bunch of times he’s a very nice guy. He’s just one of my heroes. So I had no malice or anything towards him before any of this stuff or even now.”
Robert Oberst, who is a two-time World’s Strongest Man finalist, was as laid back as can be in the video and state how he felt like he was walking on eggshells when discussing this topic. Ultimately, Oberst admitted that the comments made by Arnold Schwarzenegger did not sit well with him either.
“Arnold spoke out about how he felt with certain regulations and how he doesn’t like that some people don’t like being regulated so much. And that some people don’t like millionaires and billionaires telling them what to do right before they do the opposite and have private parties with hundreds of thousands of people and travel overseas to do huge engagements as Arnold is doing these next couple of weeks,” Oberst said.
“Then also going further than that and specifically speaking to those people and saying “screw your freedom” doesn’t sit well with a lot of people.”
It has become the opinion of many that Schwarzenegger’s comments were taken out of context. The video has been seen by many and the context is clear. This is why different organizations have made decisions regarding Arnold and his events.
It began with REDCON1, who has been one of the top sponsors of the Arnold Classic for years. CEO Aaron Singerman recently announced that the company will no longer be a sponsor for the Arnold Classic or any other of his events. Brian Shaw also made a move when he removed posters of Schwarzenegger from his gym.
“I’m fully 100 million percent behind Brian Shaw. I don’t think there’s any room for people that don’t respect other people’s beliefs and other people’s values,” Oberst said.
“It’s the only country that offers something else. The only country that exists, even to this day, with the freedoms that we are born with. A lot of people hold that in high regard and I am one of them. And I’m proud that Brian Shaw is one of them and I’m proud that REDCON1 is also one of them.”
Robert Oberst ended his video by expressing his love for this country and thanking those who have fought for and died for freedom.
It has been over a week now since Arnold Schwarzenegger made his initial comments. This is clearly an issue that is not going to go away easily and one that has caused some action already. It will be interesting to see how it plays out moving forward.
