My bench maxout.

Today in the weight room , We had to maxout on our benching. Well I guess im weighing 135. But well before I benched I did a couple warmups off to the side and stretched with like 135 lbs for like 12 reps. Then I called the weight lifting coaches so they could see what I benched on my maxout so they could write it down. I started off with 135 so I would atleast have a maxout written down if I couldnt get how much I was aiming for. Then I moved it up to 145. I got 145 easy. But then after I moved it up to 155. I had the weight going up fine my maxout would of been at 155 right then. But then my spotter who just came up and started spotting me grabs the bar , so my bench did not count :(... So I tried to redo it and almost had the rep but I couldnt get it.

So im guessing my maxout when im fresh just walking into the weight room is atleast 160 weighing 135lbs.

That's good Malic!!!! If you get the chance to redo the max...take it!!! Hey, at least your scores will show improvement rather than no change!!!! This is a good thing, sweetie!!!!

i bench 500 for 6 reps if you need any advice im the man to ask.

Please don't give false advice to anyone, especially a newbie trying to learn...

Malic, you're doing great bro. I don't remember what your max was before, but are you making progress?

if you're knocking off 135 for 12 I bet your Max is more like 175. You've got some good strength for you age and weight, it's a great foundation. Keep up the good work brother!

next time try and just knock out 3 or 4 reps at 135... then move to 155 since you know you've gotten 145 in the past. Then from there I bet you can add even more.

a good thing for you to help add some strength and strength endurance since you want to play sports is to be doing pushups everyday... If I was you I would be knocking off 100+ pushups a day. You can do sets of 25 throughout the day and before you know it you'll be doing sets of 50 or more. When I was doing it religiously I would wake up do 50 take a shower and do another 50 then at night I would do another 2 sets of 50 then worked my way up and my bench went up as well... Keep up the good work bro

Yeah man! Movin' in the right direction! lower reps at the bottom mean more at the top when maxin'! Make sure to warm up good to prevent injury. That will only hamper the progress.

Thanks

thanks everybody , But well im not sure how much progress ive gained if any. Because I never had freeweights to train with. So ive just been trying to workout outside with the machine I have out there. So there is no way to tell. Plus thats a good idea ill start doing about 50 pushups morning and night every day. Ill try to work my way up 10-25 more pushups after every week if I can also.

But actually im weaker than I was over the summer because I could maxout at 120 pushups over the summer when I was weighing 140-145. But since I quit right before school started back I got alot weaker pretty quick

That's OK you'll get it back quick because of muscle memory... FYI - endurance is much harder to keep and requires more training to keep than strength... in order to mantain your endurance you need to exercise every 5 - 7 days just to mantain it. With strength you won't start to see a decline until weeks and sometimes even months without training.

Malic, I was out of training for about a year... I have been back to training for only a few months and I am showing tremendous progress. I'm not my old self, but it took me years to develop what I have gotten back in just a few months...you will get back to your old self soon...hang in there!!

Malic...def listen to mike here. Just doing pushups everyday throughout the day will boost your bench max up. I would personally do 200 a day spread out throughout the day doing sets of 25 or to failure and do your best to hit 200. That is a great max for someone your age. I train a few kids here at my college and at age 18 theyre getting up 135-155 as their max. So youre doing a great job, i have no doubt youre going to do very well in this sport if you stick with it. Good luck bro

Keep up the good work little man..Just be true to it and you will see results...but always remember to eat and eat to feed that new muscle your building...Great advices from experience and wise people on here....Good luck

Because you're a hillbilly -- okay I may be stereotyping...but all...okay, most the guys...around here lie about that kind-of stuff, b/c they think people that lift are stupid, on steroids, and out of their mind for working out. --okay I was stereotyping. You act just like the guys around here, so that is who I am comparing it with. Forgive me if I insulted you...there is nothing wrong with being a hillbilly.

soo

Do you think I should do the pushups morning and night along with bodyweight squats morning and night and towel jumps morning and night? So I can build my bench , squat , vertical. and also maybe make my 40yard faster???

Ok towel jumps is an exercise we did last year during basketball season. You just lay a towel down and hop and backforth over it as fast as you can while jumpin on your toes. once you land on your toes you jump right back over. You do it till you cant jump anymore. My vertical last year was 25 at the end fo the basketball season. So im going to start doing those again and hopefully get back up to 25 or even more. Since I was only measured at 21 this year on thursday. I can maybe get more than 21 tho since I didnt jump off my toes on my vertical

Sounds like a plyometric? Like to increase fast twitch? Sounds interesting. I know a guy that just did the Patriots' offseason agility and speed w/o precontest and ended up looking great. Why not try it?
