<!-- yog-5u -->More than two dozen people, mostly elementary school children, were shot and killed at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school this morning, federal and state sources tell ABC News.

The massacre involved two gunmen at a Connecticut school this morning, prompting the town of Newtown to lock down all of its schools and draw SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.

State Police confirm that one shooter is dead. A second gunman is apparently at large. Car-to-car searches are underway.

It's unclear how many people have been shot, but 25 people, mostly children are dead, multiple federal and state sources tell ABC News. That number could rise, officials said.

now that they have children involved, they can really get some bleeding heart liberals behind them to force us to give away our protection...

Here in Illinois this state finally wised up and passed concealed weapon law, joining the other 49 states. This happened 10 minutes from where I live...My daughter was in kindergarten at another Elementary School down the street. Her School went on lockdown, there are police everywhere at the school.... I went and got her out immediately, so my little one is safe and sound. Thank God.

So far it looks like 27 are dead, primarily children.

There are helicopters over my house as we speak.

They somehow got a search warrant for a house they are relating to the crime. When they went to serve it, they found another dead body inside.

There is supposedly a gunman on the loose, one is dead, the other was seen in a red mini-van. The police presence where I live is intense.

Very very scary being a parent. When I got the call my heart literally sank...

Thank you so much Csuperman and Survivor, I appreciate it..My nerves are still on edge...I can't lie.

Newtown is a very very small town, and it is pretty wealthy. There is zero crime there.

I can see helicopters over my house constantly, so although some reports say the area is secure..It appears they are looking for someone..

Some reports say the shooter was a 20 year old kid, and that he opened fire on his mother who was a teacher and then shot all of her kindergarten students, and then several other people..I was told by a teacher they believe the number is over 30 but not confirmed.

So glad your daughter is safe, Wesley. My son's school has been locked down a few times, but always over little things. I can't imagine the anxiety of something like this. Try not to spoil her too bad this weekend.

This is truly a sad, sad day. Unimaginable how or why someone would do this to innocent children. I have two boys aged 4 and 5.....I can't even begin to think about how the parents will ever be able to cope with this....and the kids who were fortunate to make it out....their lives are now forcibly changed forever.
