Bumstead and King received congratulations from a who’s who in the strength sports world, including seven-time Mr. Olympia champion Phil Heath, Men’s Open bodybuilder Blessing Awodibu, fellow Classic Physique bodybuilder Terrence Ruffin, bodybuilding coach Joe Bennett, world record powerlifter Jamal Browner, and two-time International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) world champion Russel Orhii, among others.

A Tale of Two Olympians

According to NPC News Online, King made her competitive bodybuilding debut at the 2011 NPC Teen Collegiate & Masters National Championships (TC&MNC) in the Bikini division with a first-place finish. She competed five times the following year, including a successful title defense at the 2012 NPC TC&MNC.

King’s Olympia debut came in 2013 when she ranked seventh overall in the Bikini division. She won the 2013 IFBB Europa Show of Champions earlier that year to qualify for bodybuilding’s grandest stage. In 2014, King ranked seventh overall at the 2014 Arnold Classic, her only pro show appearance that year. She returned to the competitive stage in 2015, scoring five top-five pro show finishes, four of which were on the podium but none of which were gold.

In 2016, King won the two biggest female bodybuilding pro shows of the year — scoring gold at both the 2016 IFBB Rising Phoenix Arizona Pro in September and the 2016 Bikini Olympia three months later.

Bumstead made his competitive debut the year King won her Olympia title. In 2017, Bumstead converted two pro show wins en route to his Olympia debut, which resulted in a silver medal behind two-time Classic Physique champion Breon Ansley. Bumstead repeated that result in 2018. In 2019, Bumstead ascended the Classic Physique Olympia throne and has not relinquished it since.

King last competed on a pro bodybuilding stage in 2017 when she won the Hawaii Pro. Bumstead is expected to attempt a sixth Classic Physique Olympia title in 2024.
