I could kill my ex-fiance for murdering my credit, but I can handle the consequences for my actions in giving her access to my credit cards. I've been battling credit issues for a long time now since we broke up in late 2005. I'm just now starting to get debt knocked down and credit rebuilt since I've now got a good job and am finally on stable ground. I never thought it'd be this hard, but it's a work in process. Looking back filing for bankruptcy probably would've been the easiest route, but I was only 22 and didn't think that was the best way to go at my age. Oh well, I can at least live with the fact that I'm doing it all on my own even though it's taking forever

Big guy- I feel your pain as I was in the same boat under the same situation. It is the biggest pain the ass, and I know I am to blame as well because I let it happen, but it does take a long time to fix it. And I can tell you I would never file for bankruptcy and I don't believe you would either... make sure you keep checking your credit report to make sure changes and updates are made.

Yea, it certainly sucks, but I'm now on the up swing. I've got a service with one of the secured credit cards I have, CreditInform, which sends me info every month with an updated credit score and all of that info. It makes it nice to have that each month so you have an idea of where you stand. I'd never file for bankruptcy, but I'll admit it would've been easier, but I was raised to pay your debts no matter what. I'm not knocking anyone who's filed for bankruptcy at all, I just know I'd never do it. I hate owing money to anyone no matter what so this has killed me for the past 6+ years.

I am with you- I hate owing money too.
I believe there are certainly circumstances when bankruptcy is the only solution and I understand that 100%

funny u guys brought this up, i was just looking to get my one free report a year from each of the 3 credit reporters, but i cant find out how to get my free ones, everywhere i go they want to charge me

and i want to kill that guy singing on the "free credit report.com" commercial, that shit aint free!

Presser, I've not done it, but I'm almost positive you can get a full credit report each year from your bank. Like I said, I don't know how you go about getting it, but I know a couple of years ago this was a big thing in the news. Maybe you could call your bank and get more info on it, but you are entitled to one a year I do know that

There should be a place on TRW, Equifax where you can get your report for free.
And yes- the free credit report isn't free- they charge you a reoccurring fee and its hard to get rid of it once it starts.

Been in the same boat from an ex and was owner in restaurant that crashed with economy while back. I hate hate
hate owing money to anyone or any place . It's one of the worlds top reason for suicides.Yes your bank will give you a free credit
report but if you are dodging anyplace you owe money that company will see current address etc and will then be back calling or garnishing wages with current info you gave to obtain your "free" report.
Sometimes "free" is no good..

yeah its a sham! they shouldnt be legaly able to anounce its free, even if it says otherwise on their site

my wife found the phone numbers for each of the 3 credit reporters, all u have to do is call and each of them will send u a free one, if u want the phone #s lemme know ill post them

u can also fill out a form on their website for a free report,

I own a second home, its more a vacation home on Lake Superior and due to the recession I've gone delinquent on the mortage after many yrs of perfect payment history. Plus I worked a deal w/AMEX on what I owed them so I feel everyones pain as my score has taken a dive.

I know you can write a short paragraph that appears on your report explaining your history. Its something creditors will look at. Try it

Maybe a bit off topic, but personally I think credit scores are another sham to allow banks to charge out the ass on people that aren't so bright or are in a tough spot. When we bought my wife's Vette, the first company wanted 9.9%!!! I told them (and yes I was insulted) that I'm not an idiot. I can pay for the car in cash should I so choose and that is obvious from my financials. I CHOSE to finance the car because even in this shit market I make 12 - 15% on a conservative portfolio. If I finance the vehicle at 4% then I'm getting 8% for free.... Well low and behold after a couple days we get 3.9%. I'm good with that so we do it. My brother on the other hand is broke due to 2 failed marriages to whores and a child. His only asset is his trust fund which is not under his control. He just bought a new SS Camaro for 0.9% because he has an 822 score.

I didn't know you could write something like that, it'd be worthwhile I guess

Yea I think you have a 100 words to explain your side of whatever you may disputed w/a creditor. It wont affect your score but it at least gives you your day in court. If you try it and they dont allow it anymore, please let me know. Thanks and good luck to you
